Thumbs up Clutch

My '04 has only 15K miles on it but with the addition of a Comptech supercharger (280 rear- wheel horespower with stock exhaust according to their dyno chart) I apparently have overpowered the clutch. On VTECH the engine just spins and bangs the rev limiter. In 4th I know it's not smoking the tires. I've read the forums and as usual, there seem to be as many opinions as valued contributors. It's a street driver that I like to get on once in a while, though I'd NEVER drag race on the street, being mature and responsible and all . Anyhow, concensus seems to be an ACT pressure plate and a newer (05+) OEM clutch disc. Given my parameters, suggestions? Confirmation? Then there's the do it myself vs. paying through the nose for some unknown level of comptency. Do you really need the alignment tool?

Take it easy on the VTECH. It's not a toy you know!

Yeah your clutch is cactus. ACT pressure plate is highly regarded and the OEM pressure plate is pretty good. You may also need a new flywheel if the clutch has really been over heated.

My recommendation is to buy the kit from Hardtop Guy.

Whether you install it yourself or have it done at a shop is another question. It's a PITA to do and takes a while. If you can find someone who has a done a few then use them. Otherwise read up on the DIYs here with all the tricks and watch out fors.

Alignment tools are great but as the friction disc lines up with the edges of the pressure plates friction surface and these are accessible from the side it is easy to line up without the tool.

I am at almost 50,000 miles on my stock clutch and though I am not putting down huge numbers, 330whp 220ft/lbs it is holding up just fine. I don't understand how you could have blown it out so quickly. But yes the ACT/ stock combo from hardtop guy is the kit of choice for less then 400 ponies.

I think the delay valve on the AP2's is whats causing the clutch to slip so soon...it seems some of the AP1's have been on their oem clutch a while after going S/C.I put about 6k miles on my oem clutch after S/C install...then it started slipping.

hum....maybe it's time to remove the CDV.
