Default Clutch Setups.

Been doing some reasearch on s2ki and saw a few run with

1) ACT heavy duty pressure plate
2) OEM Disc
3) Comptech lightweight flywheel

Now when i talk with other "car" friends, they wonder why i would run the OEM disc and not another one like ACT Street disc.

what does a lesser weight flywheel do to the clutch system?
what does a heavy duty pressure plate do to the clutch system?
Why OEM and not afterwork disc?

Could you please post your clutch setup before you post just to see what you are running.

I'm running completely stock and original clutch at the moment. When I comes time, I'll go with ACT HD PP. As for the disc, I'll go with an OEM or an ACT street disc depending on the price. Lightweight flywheel? Depends if I actually need a new one or if the old one can be machined. I'm not one to waste money on something when what I've got works great.
I believe the ACT street disc is just a "re-worked" OEM disc, so if one is cheaper, I'll go with it. A HD PP give more clamping force and thus, can hold more power. A lightweigt flywheel can allow the engine to spin up a bit faster but this engine spins up plenty fast, especially with a blower. And since it's lighter, it might actually take a bit of getting used to, to drive the car smoothly. The extra inertia that a heavier flywheel can hold, makes it a bit easier to drive to the car smoothly.

If the flywheel has "hot spots" or if it has been scored (deep gouges, like on a disc brake rotor) and it is within acceptable tolerances, the surface of the flywheel can be "scraped down". This is just removing a thin layer of material to get rid of the imperfections, much like "turning" a brake rotor.

The ACT street disc I recieved was a OEM Honda disc. It even has "Honda" stamped on the center hub.

Do you recall if there was a price differential? (ACT vs OEM)

My stock clutch setup worked fine with a basic Comptech SC but slipped with additional boost (9lb). An ACT HD PP upgrade later and all is fine. I kept the stock flywheel and just had it refinished.

Carlo, I'm using the ACT HD PP, OEM disc, and Comptech lightened flywheel. I'm also at 7lbs on my Comptech sc. I'm happy with it.

I'd also have to agree with xviper, used properly(read: no abuse), the stock components are satisfactory. I only replaced the flywheel because she was already going ot be opened up. I wouldn't be able to tell you if there was a measureable difference w/ and w/o the Comptech flywheel. I had it all done at the same time: sc, pulley, ac, clutch, flywheel.

That sounds like the best way to do it. All at the same time. I woudl imagine it being harder to install a clutch when the SC is already on.
