Default Crank Play :(

So Full Blown took the tranny off today looking to throw a CC clutch in to replace the ACT that was in the car when I purchased it.

There were precautions done to the car, disengaged clutch to start up, I was really careful as well. But now there is too much play and he thinks it's time to replace the bottom end

If you guys are running ACT clutches throw them away ASAP!

Just ranting to the s2ki f/i community

BTW if you guys see a AP1 bottom end fs please pm me and lmk thanks

Sorry to hear. Which CC clutch were you switching too? LJ had fun driving my 6 puck CC clutch.

An actual endplay # would help here. Is there any bearing material in the oil? I'd be pulling the pan and looking at the thrust bearings before condemning an engine that runs fine.

d1- Are you the guy from nebraska that came and got tuned last weekend? Going with a CC stage 5.

I can ask LJ to grab measurements. Haven't drained the oil from the pan yet. The play is pretty significant. It pulls back and forth and you can hear clanking back and forth.

I've seen it on 1 other Ap2 motor that was in storage, you could feel some play at the crank pulley when the flywheel was not on the car. You'd even get a "thunk" when pushing the crank in and out.

Pull the oil pan, if there is no flaking debris it's fine.

Yes.

Coming back up on the 23rd when LJ will tune my buddy Mike's AP1 with Full Blown stage 1 kit. You should stop at the shop.

I had a ACT clutch in the car when my stock motor blew. Was to much damage to tell what really took place . I just blamed ACT for good measure

Yeah, check the play before calling it bad. My buddies 76k mile Ap1 bottom we put in his had .012" of play in the crank and we checked the limits and I believe its .014" if I remember correctly. Anyway, we went with it and he is making 680 whp on e85 with no issues.

If your play is greater than .014" then its probably bad, but if its less and within specs from the Helms manual, just go with it and you'll be fine. As soon as you put the clutch and trans in, that play will be gone.

I will pull the pan tomorrow at LJ's shop and hope for the best. Thanks for making me feel like there is a chance of hope.

D1- PM me when you're coming up. I'd be glad to run up to the shop and chat with ya.

I have 69-70k On the motor I believe. I don't remember exactly.

Spoolin-I'm really wanting to push it to 500whp/E85 and be able to push this car and not worry about the motor self destructing. So do you check the play while the flywheel is on? It is making a loud clunk type of sound everytime we move it back and forth. Can you find out what the limits are as well? Thanks

Will do.

Here is a copy of the OEM Honda Service Manual for specs. In the service manual, the flywheel is removed on the page before this so I assume it is measured with it off? Maybe someone can verify.

New .004-.014 inches
Service limit .018 inches
