Default ctsc oil leak

Before i start i want to state that ive tried searching but didnt find much info. Im hoping someone can help me with my comptech sc problem. I noticed the other day that there was oil on the crossmember. Up to that point i havent noticed it so it couldve been an ongoing leak. While cleaning the area i noticed that it was coming from that really short tubing connecting the aftercooler to the blower.

I understand that a small amount of oil leak is normal for these units but can someone tell me where it normally should leak from? Im trying to determine if the leak i have is nothing to worry about or if i need to have my blower rebuilt.

I had this issue. In my case the blower had bad seals and needed to be rebuilt. I'd pull the intake elbow off and inspect around the impeller area. You will most likely find a layer of oil grime in there.

Thanks for the input! Ill take a look this weekend. Anything else i should take a look at? Ive read that there should be no shaft play in the blower (heh..cant type that with a straight face..)?

Read my thread, it may help you understand what's inside and where the leak could be from.

It can be only one of three places really. Input shaft, output shaft or housing.

How would i go about removing the blower? Do i need to remove it together with mounting plate or is it possible to uninstall only the blower. Im thinking i should just have it rebuilt just for piece of mind since the car has about 55k miles now. Not sure when the sc was put on tho as i bought the car with it already installed.

Also what kinda problems could be caused by oil in the aftercooler?

I have a custom mounting plate so I am unsure if you can remove your SC without the plate, I would imagine you will have to remove both then split them.

I would only rebuild if there is a problem with the blower:

Example:

Output shaft seal is leaking (impeller)
Impeller is damaged
Bearings are noisy
Bearing/shafts have 'play' in them.

In this case, if it's just the main housing that is leaking you maybe able to just tighten the cap head bolts up, which hold the back plate on. Input shaft seal is also easy and cheap to replace ( but these woundn't leak on the cross member - I don't think).

If it's any of the above examples you would need a rebuild or trade it in against a Novi 1200 series.

I'm in the same boat and I'm mid-SC removal. I started out trying to remove the mounting plate, but it's slow going using a box wrench. I think you can just remove the blower from the plate. You'll have to remove the pulley to get it off the plate and that may require you to loosen the 4 bolts holding the plate to the motor so you can get a socket onto the pulley bolt.

I'm planning on sending mine off to 928 Motorsports for a rebuild.
