I said the KAAZ was an LSD not a DIFF.
So the Kaaz/Comptech combo is NOT really an alternative to the Diff Technics.

also I'm not sure but I "think" were using the term diff interchangably with what is considered a complete rear.
The difftechnics set-up is essentially just brackets, and driveshaft to mount a new housing, diff, and axels is that correct?
If that is true wouldn't it be fair to compare that package and to say a comptech housing, kaaz rear and drive shaft shop axels. the former is had at approx 4300 and the latter for around 2200. I'm not arguing for or against either just curious as to how comparable these two things are for someone whos going FI and wants to launch. If those items would solve the problem it seems like a lower cost alternative to some of the people out there. I maybe completely off base here but its just something i've been wondering while perusing some posts...

I was under the impression lsd stood for limited slip differential, as in a type of diff, what else constitutes a diff? excuse my ignorance just trying to learn here.

Or, for $6500 you can have a busted kaaz/comptech combo the first time you launch, and then a $4300 bulletproof rear end when youre sick of breaking shit.
Bottom line, if you have any serious launches in your future, pucker it up and pay now rather than much more later.
Tinker is over generalizing a bit. Lots of people just have a the comptech reinforced and are fine. Lots of people are stock and fine. Then you have the guys trying to run 10's, and they're ripping their diffs out after a pass or two.
It all boils down to hows serious you are about drag racing, and if your going to be pushing tons of HP.
The Diff Technics replacement goes a bit farther than axles, housing, and brackets. Its a complete Skyline diff that's been modified to work on the s2k. I don't even think any of the original s2k parts are even inside the thing. Could be wrong though.
There's a guy on the boards here (lives a couple of town from me) who is running some serious boost. He snapped his axle when he had it floorred, the car hit a bump, when it came down it twisted the axle completely in half.

I don't think tinker is far off
The stock diff is fine as long as you don't lauch or do donnuts. I had the stock diff on with the sc and then the turbo without much problem.
I waited for PPG and DT for a long time but they were not ready before our local drag national so I had no choice but had to break the gearbox and axle at the drag.
I currently use a nissan s13 diff and a dogbox designed and fitted by K&A. The nissan diff and Kaaz lsd are great and have not break down after many launches.
