No turbo timer required. Just be sure to run the car gently for the last few minutes and you'll be fine.

This is the truth not a necessity.

My feeling has always been that if you are Water cooled a turbo timer is unnecessary. However, if you have a oil cooled you may want to let the car run for at least 30sec - 1 minute after a hard run.

So turbo timer = unnecessary

i have a oil cooled turbo, with turbo timer, and let the car run at least 30 seconds after every drive. I have over 50k miles out of the turbo and will keep up with my practice. All anecdotal but still worth something.

being water cooled or just oil cooled, doesnt really have to do with it. No, a turbo timer is not necessary just make sure after your done driving that you let the car idle for 30seconds to atleast a minute depending on how hard you were driving. If you just shut the car right off the oil will sit in the turbo and in the lines, the oil will start to coke. Which is no good. ha

I have one but rareley use it. I live in a little sub division which is nice as it gives the car about a minute at low speeds/rpms to cool off and give the oil a chance to run through.

I have one, but it's off. You really don't need one as long as your smart enough to let it cool down a few seconds before turning it off. If your beating the snot out of the car and then turn down your street take an easy down your street, pull in your drive your fine. That'd be enough time.
