Default Down pipe to Cat

Got off the phone today with epic motorsports and they brought something up i did not give any thought to.
How did you guys connect the down pipe to the cat? Kevin stated that he can use a V Band? Not sure what that is but it sure costs a lot, $400!

Also how many of you guys are using stock cat, no cat or highflows?

I will be using a custom turbo back. It has the inline 3" downpipe but will be connect to 3"stainless ran all the way back to a turbo muffler. No cat, no brand name exhaust system. Just pure flow.

My downpipe is V banded to the turbo and to the cat/test pipe. I love V bands. If I could, I would use them everywhere.

Here's a v-band

The flanges would be welded onto the downpipe and the cat. Then the clamp goes over them to seal them together. 1 nut per connection is awesome.

Quick release v-band

thanks timg, this is what the shop will charge me $400 for? or is it just a component of a pipe that will be attached to the downpipe to the cat?

Maybe $400 for the entire downpipe with v-bands and welding and everything else. These are just a replacement for bolt together flanges. Imagine $50/flange instead of $20/flange. It shouldn't be a large extra charge for v-bands.

since inline kit already has a downpipe, given the cost to install the v band and the welding of the downpipe to the cat (not the downpipe, that is already included in the cost of installation of the kit) does $400 sound about right?

I'm not sure exactly what they're going to do, but here's my best guess. $400 sounds slightly high for cutting the two flanges off of the Inline Pro downpipe and welding a V-band to the cat, both ends of the downpipe, and the turbine housing. I would ask them to break down the costs for you if you're worried about it.

2 full v-band connections with clamp = $100-150
Welding and fab work = ~ $200 max

I could easily understand $400 if it was an entire downpipe being made from scratch.
