Default Dynoed Vortech SC Aftercooler Owners

The guy who did my dyno was saying that Vortech SC on a S2000 have a tendency to be lean at VTEC crossover then tend to rich again after hitting 8200 all the way to 9000. And he's also saying he heard a little bit of detonation. I need help guys . What are your opinions? He's saying about SFMU and AEM APR and he's saying...we have to fix that lean or it could blow my engine. Anyway I have a 271HP on Mustang Dyno at 8200 RPM. That's the best after three runs. I think it is sucks......So what's that at the crank 352 HP I think it's a keep but I'm serious guys....I need some very good suggestions from you to fix this lean. Thanks

How lean are we talking about here? Can you put up a trace to show us?
Vortech does advertise (at least they used to) an additional 108 HP at the crank, so this puts it at about 348. Also, a Mustang dyno has not shown to be the most "satisfying" way to measure things.

Hey xviper I think you need to get your calculator out what is all this 248 HP at the crank business.

Crank HP is a crap measurement as it is only a guess assuming a certain drive train loss, unless you are bench testing the engine.

My Vortech installation went from +/- 195 hp at the wheels to 275 hp, what I consider to be a pretty good 41% increase.

I reckon anywhere between 40 and 45% is a respectable gain.

Lets forget about HP at the crank!

Then you better get busy and contact EVERY car manufacturer in the free world. That's how they all report HP and that's what most people look for.
Also, when a manufacturer of a kit like Vortech or Comptech, they do these things on a "bench" test (engine out of the car), so what they advertise has two functions: 1) That's what they got and 2) Bigger numbers sell.

Your going to find it hard to break tradition.

"just my opinion"

But both Vortech and Comptech tend to run lean out of the box. the Comptech version is easier to adjust a/f since they come with an adjustable Fmu. But when i finished installing it, i took it straight to Shawn at Church Automotive, and it was running lean at about 15:1 hp until the vtec change over it was running about 14:1 hp was about 285hp initially, I was told he saw that quite often lean out of the box, with those superchargers. After many attempts and even using the Vortech Adj Super FMU, vafc, emanage, i've found that the standalone was my best option. With the standalone, i'm prolonging the life of my motor.

I've found the numerous amounts of money i've spent on bandaid fixes just wasn't working for me. and the only thing i have on my car is 550inj now, i'm still using the stock pulley.
I'd much rather have less hp and safe a/f than more hp with dentonation and possibly blowing my motor.

Hey guys give me a break, I thought this being specialist forum regarding significant HP increases, we should stick to real HP gains at the wheels (seeing as that is how most of us measure them), rather than "Mickey Mouse" figures that are put out by a load of marketing guys trying to push their products.

If we want to use crank HP figures lets settle on 20% over RWHP!

The use of "crank HP" was at the discretion of the thread starter. Rightfully or wrongfully, this is his choice and he was only using it as a point of interest. Perceiving this forum as a "specialist" forum and crank HP as "Mickey Mouse" is your choice as was nit picking and slamming me for a simple typo.
For all we care, the thread starter could have chosen to speak in terms of "joules" or even "kilowatts". Those who don't care for it or don't understand it, simply need not apply. If few people do, then the thread dies. That's just natural selection.

If we want to use crank HP figures lets settle on 20% over RWHP!
This is just as absurd and irrelevent as each vehicle and each powertrain mod will have it's own losses. And you call crank HP "Mickey Mouse"?

Talk about a walking contradiction.

If I recall, this "kstokell" is the same chump who got his panties all in bunch last year when various Vortech owners posted dynojet gains of well over the 108 hp promised by Vortech. He claimed that there HAD to have been something wrong with the dynos, b/c there was NO WAY a stock kit could EVER exceed Vortech's expectations.
