Default E85 Discussion

I am hoping that this thread brings up a lot of usefull information about running e85. Maybe we can figure truth from myth. Any fuel kits out there to run e85? I know ISP was working on one last year just not sure if it was ever released or the details. I personally do not have any experience with e85 but would like to learn as much as possible, as I have been cosidering e85 over pump+meth combo.

Thanks
Martin

I will be ditching the aem ems and my rc750s and upgrading to ID 1000s and kpro. I also have a walbro pump. Will this set up be able to flow enough fuel to support e85 in the 18-20psi area? Or will I be needing lines and a twin pump set up? Thanks for all the information and help.

I don't know a lot about e85 but I do know that you run it at a much richer AF ratio. so if you can hit 500whp with 750's on 93 octane, you would need 1000's or larger to run the same amount of power on e85.

e85 is a good option, there's a few gas stations in miami that guys get their e85 from. there's none around me though in fort lauderdale and I plan on traveling with my car so I'm sticking with 93 octane since that's readily available.

it's something to think about with your car, if it's tuned for e85 and you have to use 93 you'll have to load another map or it'll run like donkey ass. if you don't travel and there's e85 near you then it's cool. if you want to travel it's hit or miss if you're gonna find e85.

oh yeah, if you've already got the AEM I'd keep it, it'll do all you need it to do and it's less expensive than hondata.

we tried different fuel lines and found out regular braided fuel lines work fine. you can always upgrade it to Teflon lines but i don't think its necessary. as far as injectors are concerned i recommend 1200cc if you want to make around 600 and 1600cc after that. we were at 100 duty cycle when we made 660hp on 1200cc injectors. you'll need at least two walbro pumps if you want to run it on decent boost.

We are in the process of making my wifes car into a flex fuel vehicle so she doesnt run 93oct by accident. only thing bad about it is that with aem i can only correct fuel ratio. if i had motec in this car i believe you can change timing also.

I know, if emissions were not an issue I would keep it. It is a pain to switch over to my emanage for emissions. As I would have to swap back o2 sensors and get another tune on the emanage for the new set up plus i really do not think the emanage blue will be able to support large injectors.

If your needing that much more fuel to run E85, won't that make the fuel economy total crap. I know you shoudn't turbo a car, or own a sports car and think of such things. But with running water/meth setups you only use it when your boosting. With E85 your always running this fuel that from the discussion seems fairly wasteful.

What are your power goals with E85?

if you use the nitrous map then you could easily switch between two fuel and timing maps. have the base map set for 93 and the nitrous map set for e85, or vice versa.

you're right, fuel efficiency is where it's a big compromise, I forgot about that. the guys I met that run e85 use it in place of race gas because it's so much cheaper. these aren't daily drivers so they're not worried about fuel economy, they're just using it as a cheap race fuel.

for emissions reasons it makes sense, that's the one drawback with the AEM.

I only have a Garrett t3/t4 .60a/r so I would be very pleased with 450whp and satisfied with 400whp. I am not sure how much I will be able to boost this turbo. Any insight? Just so I have this right, I can use the stock fuel system except the pump and injectors (stock lines ok)? For my power goals will the ID 1000s be enough with a single pump? I also have a synapse fpr I could put on.

MPG are not my priority haha. I only put maybe 1500 to 2k miles per year on it, well at least for the past few years. It is only for fun. I have owned the car since october 02 and have only put 24k on it.

Thanks
Martin
