eBay turbo kit for $299?
[/quote]
Please explain. I've put eBay kits on for friends, and their turbos have last longer than my Precision turbo I bought new. Honestly he's had LESS problems than I have had with a "quality" build.
eBay turbos had a bad rep from years ago, and slowly have gotten better. Like I said, I've never seen a eBay turbo out of the box bad. Ask around about Precision turbos, how many people have had problems with them. Ask tuners, they'll tell you.
Truth is I would buy a eBay turbo before I bought another damn Precision turbo.
Everyone wants to knock on eBay turbos. Imho they're so much better than precision turbos... Never seen an eBay turbo be bad out of the box brand f@#king new.. Have seen precisions turbos be bad brand new, snap the turbine shaft first pass at drag strip, and blow on the dynos. Hell even personally I had an eBay 57 trim last longer than my current 6766 before it needed a rebuild..
Did I refer to Precision as quality? I did not. I have a Garrett 30r going in my car currently. Go ahead and run an ebay setup in your S and report back. Its been done here before, the guy ended up having to replace most of the components, including the turbo because it wouldn't boost past 7psi. The wastegate ends up not regulating boost properly, the blow off valve ends up not holding boost, the turbo destroys itself from being off balance from the manufacturer, and so on. Back in my DSM days a buddy of mine bought a "50 trim" off ebay for his Gsx. It had shaft play from the get go, ran for about 2 months and then started smoking heavily under load. Pretty much the only parts off an ebay kit that may go the distance as "quality" parts (ie Garrett, Tial, Turbosmart, Borg Warner) are the intercooler, and possibly the cast log manifold. Did you pursue a warranty repair or replacement through Precision for your issue? I've dealt with the typical leaky seals in a Precision first hand in my GST when I had it. Restrictors are a must in most applications when dealing with a Precision turbo. A lot of guys here run Precision turbos and make awesome power with them. A lot of folks have also had issues with their Precision turbos. But I've never seen a soul here with a $150 knock off turbo with anything positive to say. There's a reason that kit costs $299...
I mean mine made amazing power on e70, but it didn't last long at all. My first turbo car was a civic, I had a garret 50 trim turbo and an ebay 57 trim turbo. eBay turbos aren't really the "correct size" from what I've heard from different people, but the 57 trim did make tons of power and I never had issues out of it for 20k miles. The Precision 6266 I put on the car with a built motor, lasted 6k or so. My Precision 6766 on my s2k last around 5k before it started smoking.. I understand you have to pay to play, that's cool I'm fine with all that. But it's annoying when your DD's turbo has to be sent out to be rebuilt.. lol.
Everyone knows Precision turbos make tons of power. That's all you can really say though.. They don't last long.
I wasn't saying anything positive about the BOV or WG. I would never buy a knock off one of those.. lol.
A cast iron log manifold, is a cast iron log manifold. Supra guys run eBay turbo manifolds.. lol.
I've rewelded OBX twin scroll manifolds for b series that have cracked, and I've rewelded expensive full-race ones that cracked. They all generally crack in the same spot though, the metal its self. As the weld is stronger than the base material 99% of the time. Granted OBX does not purge their manifolds when they weld them.
Intercooler piping, it's aluminum piping.. Unless you want to spend a lot more money on piping just order a CX racing kit, and have someone weld them up. I've done it before for people, and I'm sure I will again.
I'm only saying that as far as turbos go, eBay turbos have been a lot more reliable. They "can" be hit or miss, but precisions rap sheet the last couple years has been just as hit or miss. But on a larger scale since more people buy them.
Actually I traded for a EK hatch last year, stock b16 motor, eBay turbo kit on it. Needed a clutch kit, I junk the fake tial WG, put a real one on it, beat the f@#k out of that motor and car for 2k miles. Sold it, the next owner beat the hell out of it for another 10. The rings finally let go because of blow by. The buy I got it from loosened the black box behind the motor so it'd shoot out blow by from back there. The guy that got it from me noticed that one day, tightened it up, and next thing you know a couple days the motor let go. Little eBay turbo still worked. Honestly that turbo worked harder and longer than my current precision turbo.. lol.

No doubt its annoying, that's why a beater for a daily driver is so great so you can habe a back up vehicle. Why not swap to a Borg if you are looking for something that seems to have a better track record? I've read many great things about their mid-large frame turbos being reliable and producing awesome numbers.
Even with all the problems I've had with Precision I've been debating their 6466 lmao. Or Comp turbos 6466. Honestly what it comes down to; is I just got the car retuned, and I don't want to pay for another tune.. When my Precision turbos don't act up, I love the power they make.
I just think it's stupid how people want to bash eBay turbos, when first hand I've seen them last longer than Precision turbos.. Sad isn't it. lol. The reason everyone bashes eBay turbos is because of how shitty they were when they first came out. They've came a long way since then lol.
Man it's still a Honda, I'm not driving a ferrari. It's a beater.. lol

In regards to $900 Turbo Kit...
From what I recall. They DID install it and they made high 200 low 300HP power with okay TQ. Then I don't recall any follow ups on that thread.
Then again, I hardly remember what I had for lunch.
