The Effects of Changing Mounts on Manifold Longevity

I've read your build threads (feel free to relay details in this thread ). I also have a Mase manifold (bought it second hand; no cracks from the previous owner). Was your cracking issue directly related to the stiff mounts?

I'll go into details later, but for now I'll just say this - stiff motor mounts and sidewinders do not mix.

I have also pondered this.
I can't imagine anything can be worse than broken stock mounts as the excess movement is translated down your exhaust, and torques on the mani.
Flex-less downpipes crack manifolds almost instantly.
I don't see why stiff mounts and a nice flex section would be any worse. Certainly interested to hear what others have to say.

Exactly my thoughts as I have one torn right now. I would expect stiffer to be better for exactly the reason you mentioned. I'd change only the passenger side if it was me as the other rubber side would allow for vibrations to be soaked up. Also I suppose should consider motor rotation direction though. Something to weigh out.
With a flex section in the pipe I would imagine the harsher vibrations are worse if anything but this is simply a guess on my part. If one has stock mounts I'd strongly urge them to get a flex section if they're on a tubular.
