Default EMS tuning gone wrong

EDIT: THIS IS FOR THOSE WITH AN ENGINE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM SUCH AS THE AEM EMS AND HIGHER BOOST. IF YOU HAVE A STOCK VORTECH KIT AND STOCK ECU, DON'T FREAK OUT, I'VE BEEN TOLD YOU'LL BE OK

Friend's car...

Vortech S/C kit without proper tuning:

I'd be curious to know this, too.
There have been hundreds of examples of both Comptech and Vortech kits that have just been slapped onto our cars and have run for years without any tuning and without any incident. I'm one of them.
It might be interesting to know how this person drives the car, too.

Sorry I should say... AEM EMS not tuned properly. Stock block, head, etc. Vortech, exhaust, clutch. Not sure how much boost. The kit was removed and sold along with everything else and the engine returned to stock. Car was sold to a friend of mine and ran fine. An engine knock started and upon inspection revealed this.

Now the facts come out. Your title is somewhat "alarmist" and misleading. It has no bearing on how a stock kit (when not altered) works on this car.

Well if he was tuning with EMS then he was more than likely running higher than stock boost levels...

Title says to tune when boosted. Nothing about a stock kit at stock boost. I think even with a stock kit you should tune it and make sure your A/F and timing is safe. Why trust someone else's setup to work perfect on your car. I didn't know Vortech gave out engine warantees with their kits. Better safe than sorry is all I'm saying. This is what can happen.
