I'm not sure how you think a ring can possibly exit the ring land and get past the tight PW clearance without showing some sort of "exit strategy". Ninja rings...

look at my first image. No sign around the outer diameter of the piston top does it show where the ring got through.

When my motor blew I took my head off I was like "oh cool ! No piston damage ! And then I spun the crank and cylinder 4 had a big chunk missing and every cylinder was trashed and the pistons looked like this

Pretty sure it was a timing issue with the tune. Crank was ok and checked out by engine builder and being used in another build now. Was able to sell the block to someone for sleeving

And now I drive an Evo Lol

I can't see your picture at work, but I can tell you the OP did not have a ring come out and on top of the piston.

Throttle body come apart, turbo come apart?

The rings let go. Too much detonation. Happened to mine like that. The ring piece works it's way between the piston and wall into the combustion chamber. It bangs around in there making the marks on the piston & head then exits via the exhaust. You can hear it tinkling back through the exhaust after banging around in the combustion chamber.

Piston to wall clearances are in the thousandths of an inch. A loose, aftermarket forged Subaru piston is still in the ~.003" range, with the OEM S2000 clearances being MUCH tighter. A broken ring (unless broken into a fine dust), isn't going to make it between the piston and wall without some serious damage to the piston ring land and/or cylinder wall.
