I was wonderinf if anyone has had any experience with the Exhaust Wrap insulation that you can wrap your downpipe with. Is this stuff a good enough heat shield?

I'd be interested to find out if people used this to wrap downpipes. and if they had any adverse effects like pipe rusting, etc
i know I used to used it back then to wrap my v8 headers and it did keep temperatures lower under the hood. But they say that the piping will rust sooner.

I wrapped my downpipe when my hatch was turbo charged. It does the job very well. No rust as the pipe was hot enough to evap it quickly but I could also touch my downpipe after some hard runs. It is worth its weight in gold!!!!!
I've wrapped a DP in the DEI stuff before. It's fiberglass, so wear gloves when dealing with it. Hose clamps work best at keeping it attached.
If the DP is stainless I wouldn't worry to much with it rusting, a coated mild steel DP is going to have the coating cooked off eventually, and then rust.

Well, I'm sold! Thursday's project- remove downpipe and wrap it! I might add a silicone coating also to keep it fresh looking. I'll post pics if I get my camera back.
