Default Gas mileage question

I was curious about the gas mileage with a Comp or Vortech SC and AC? I'm not talking crazy mods, say stock with just SC kit. Does it go down because of the drag on the motor? And regular driving, not hauling ass.

I have another question. Ill just throw it in here so I don't waste another thread. With a SC S2K is all the responsiveness still there? Not like a turbo car where there is a noticeable difference. Does it still feel like an N/A car but with more power?

Thanks,
Matt

Last time I checked with the Comptech SC I was showing a loss of a whopping 0.02 mpg over the stock car. I posted a thread awhile back in S2000 talk, comparing my cars while stock, geared, and sc'd. Maybe you can look it up if you want a more thorough breakdown. The gears actually improved mileage, but the SC is where the fun is at.

Constant Vtec is the only place you'll really lose mileage. On a local group drive (link to vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mok4dwj0uSA ) I burned up an entire gallon more gas than the stock guys (about 15 mpg for me), of course it was well worth a couple bucks in gas.

i have a bit more than a stock comptech, but my first tank of gas was something like 12mpg... i couldn't keep my foot out of it... the second was about 15mpg... and this tank is all cruising... I'll get back to ya on how it turns out My VTec is set for 4000 when it sees more than one pound of boost.

Hey bud, i just finished my vortech on my 2002 two days ago i think now, haven't driven but a few miles but dont see a diff yet, and as for the power, low-end it is same as stock, once u get mid range and of course vtec u just better hold on, that SC likes to push the car, very nicely! I'm stock other than that, so let me know anything else. James

I've read about bad mileage with an AEM and a smaller pulley. It seems a lot of tuners are so focused on peak number performance they don't bother perfecting their part-throttle tuning abilities. You might be able to do better with another tuner. Then again, it sounds like you're putting down some pretty impressive numbers, who cares about gas anyway???

I don't doubt my tuners abilities... at cruise throttle positions i'm running a/f's around 15-16's for a bit better crusing gas mileage... i have a 3inch pulley, which at around 4k rpms is making 4psi of boost... and im guessing because its always compressing... its definitely a drag on the motor...

That and i've been going WOT alot! since i got the car put back together... im doing a long highway run, and i guess ill see what i get on the highway... i was getting close to 30mpg before i went FI... Ill let you know!

but yeah, who cares when your making boost

minimal MPG loss while cruising on the highway. You won't be producing much boost at 4k rpm and below. basically no boost = no added air = no added fuel = no decrease in gas mileage.

^^^ but the motor is still making extra effort to spin the super charger right? I would think there might be a slight loss. Not sure?

it seems my gas mileage is the same. Like others have mentioned your foot tends to get a little heavier after the sc. It doesn't help that i also have 4.77's

yes, there is exertion by the engine to spin the charger, but in the real world, this has little effect on your gas mileage
