Default GAUGES

MODS please move if this is in the wrong forum....

I would like to finish my set up with a nice set of digital gauges on a dual a pillar pod. Couple of questions though...

1. If I only have 2 gauges then I'm thinking it should be Air/Fuel ratio and Boost. Do I need to be concerned with Oil temp or Oil pressure?

2. Which brand has the best applications for our car

3. Should I get digital or analog or does it matter.

Thanks for your time....

p.s. I'm running an 04 Comptech SC with AC and stock pulley

I used to have an Autometer narrow band A/F gauge. It was OK and gave me an "indication" of how things were working, but with one of these, you need to be able to "read" plugs to know that things are good. If you want it to assist you in tuning, then you need a wide band, in which case, you're looking at some big bucks. For this, you need to look at something like the UEGO from AEM.
Boost is also a "nice to know", however, if you routinely check your belt and can tell by the feel of how your car is running, this one is not so critical. I also have the Autometer.
I find oil pressure to be more useful. You can learn to detect the slight nuances of the needle fluctuation to give you signs that something needs to be looked at. I have the Autometer for this, too.
If you only had to have two, you need to decide based on what you are doing with the car.

With a S/C I don't think boost would be nearly as important as a wideband O2 or oil pressure.

My preference:
1. Oil temp
2. Air / fuel
3. Oil pressure

The AEM UEGO mounts nicely right above the start button. My preference for gauges is something that let's me set alarm points and see peak values with a push of the button. I ended up with the DEFI for oil temp and pressure and the AEM UEGO for A/F.

School me here........what would I consider to be a high oil temp?

So you think oil temp over oil pressure?

As far as air/fuel.....is it one of those tune and forget things or is it something that fluctuates over time?

I guess the reason I was wanting the Air/fuel gauge is cause that's all I hear about wanting to make sure your not running lean or rich....

Rich is better than lean........yes?

I personaly think that pressure is more important that temp, but that's what makes this world so great...I can be differant.

Rich is SAFER than lean. Lean actually makes more power, but at the expence of costly engine replacments!!!! I recommend an AEM UEGO for the simple fact that you are putting gauges in your car to tell you how well it's running. Of course you're not going to stare at the thing all day, but it's there you can glace at it and say "yup the motor is getting the fuel it needs" Same thing with oil pressure. If it's low, check your oil level, if it's high, check your oil level I'm more worried about oil getting though the system rather than hot hot it is when it's going though. I know oil breaks down at certain heats...but at that point your going to be overheating anyway...so the water temp gauge will be going nuts and it'll give you an indication that something is wrong.

As far as a boost gauge on a SC car...I personaly think they are good too. I want to know if I'm making boost. If I know that I'm running a 9lbs pulley and I'm only getting 6...I know something is wrong. If you don't have the gauge...can your butt tell the differance bewteen 6 and 9 psi...maybe..maybe not.

Good stuff...

It's looking like I may want to run more than 2 gauges now...possibly 3.

edit: did some research.....looks like 2 pod pillar from SOS will work...

Thanks again!

You could try these each gauge has two sensors to show two different things.
