Well, take it from me once you start to go over the 300hp range the need for gears becomes less, even more so for a turbo. You need to load the turbo and if the gears are too short you will be out of the gear before you can take full advantage of the HP the turbo makes. I have 4.77 with my turbo, I like it but I can see where if they were closer to stock it would help more once in boost. I think 4.44 300-375hp would be a good choice for a moderate turbo set up but at 500hp you need stock or 3.80's.

are 3.80 readily available like the 4.77's etc? or are they more custom?

You will need to contact the Puddy mod guy on the board he would better be able to help you . Just search for puddy mod.

500whp + 4.77 gears = never reaching full boost. I definately wouldn't do it! Stay stock.

His name is Ben and his Screen name is (S2KPUDDYDAD). He is smart as hell, he built me a Stage 2 Diff. w/ a 4.44 gear. Great guy

I have seen so much of his stuff already... read the entire thread about what he does to the differentials!! Great workmanship!! Just the cost of getting it across the pond to Scotland... unless I move to Houston... hmmm
