Default getting better torque

Hey guys, im back with yet another question. I have the inline pro kit with the 3mm headgasket. I have stock internals. and the usual 3 inch exhaust. I make 470 rwhp at 19 psi. Inline pro tuned my car. I only made 283 tq. would love to get lots more tq to be able to hang with some of these V8s. what do you guys suggest part wise.

nature of the beast.

No real need for torque as when you get into the high rpms its horsepower thats propelling you, not directly torque. Hanging with v8s should be no problem at those power levels.

Don't believe the muscle car guys that swear torque is the only thing necessary to be fast

Having more then double the amount of torque helps out on the slight weight difference, let alone the fact that he has 500hp, on the drag strip. If you race him from a moderate speed roll, you'll see low weight / high horsepower has the advantage.

Fact is, you can't just magically make more torque. You would need to get a new manifold / run more boost / nitrous / etc. Any way you go, your looking at a lot more money.

No kidding. I bet that Peterbuilt next to me on the freeway makes a shiet load of tq, but somehow it doesn't accelerates all that fast.

PM partshelper...I remember he posted a while back in one of the threads..he had like 350whp and 305tq. he was running an HKS turbo with a top fuel manifold.

hehe, very true. He also have 30 gears and has a 1k rpm powerband

someone wanna teach him the magic of the number 5252?

S2000 VS Tractor trailer 18wheeler

500hp x 5252 = 2626000 / 2500RPM = 1054.4ft/lbs of tq!!!!!
350hp x 5252 = 1838200 / 8200RPM = 224.17ft/lbs of tq

1.take hp then X 5252.

2.Take the number you got from step 1 and divide that by the rpm in which peak hp was made, not always the redline but usually near.

From this you can see tq = hp at low rpm. The more power you make down low, the more TQ you make. Train engines spin INCREDIBLY slow with LOTS of hp thus their tq numbers are insane. In a larger super tanker you can hear the pistons hit....one by one. The tq is probably in the high thousands.

Interesting to note, you will see on ALL graphs that HP and TQ cross at the rpm of 5252, if they do not, question if it may be a fake.
****If i made any mistakes anyone please clear them up.

Now someone explain WHEEL TQ and how gearing changes things, thus explaining the theory behind sideways' quote of " its better to make torque higher in the rpm range if you can take advantage of gearing" or whatever he says.
