You can make more torque via one or both of the following methods:

1. Increase the boost. There are people on this board running ~25psi with the inlinePRO 3mm headgasket and 93 octane. I'd recommend upgrading your OEM rod bolts to ARP rod bolts.
2. Increase the timing. In order to do so you might have to run a higher octane fuel or a water-meth kit.

CU nick > Thx.

Yes as far as making more tq just consider what would make power Down low in the RPM. Increasing boost is much like running a bigger engine like a 4.6 V8 that's in a mustang, since your compressing more air in the chambers by forcing it in via turbo or S/C. It is interesting to note rally car cclass specs demand (class spec varies) no more then 300hp. However these cars commonly make 400ft/lbs. Since they realize they cant make lots of power due to regulation they choose to make it VERY low, so they run VERY efficient setups and lots of boost and simply don't rev very high.

lots of tq makes for an easily delivered power source. It's great for drag racing for example because in an AP1 you must rev way up to 6K to make hp. This means the wheels of the car doing 0 Must get to whatever speed the engine is going to before the clutch can be fully engaged. During that inbetween time that the clutch is slipped to keep RPMS in the prime the clutch wastes hp, it transfers the energy into heat thus power is lost to the wheel for launching. The other problem is you must feather the clutch a long time thus it is difficult to launch this car well. Imagine if our cars made power from 2,000 rpm. We'd not have to slip the clutch at all hardly thus it'd just be working the throttle and much easier to drive. This is one reason the S2000 simply sucks our grandfather's balls when it comes to drag racing.

HOWEVER, if you make TQ high in the RPM range to where it is used in our vehicles then GREAT!, We have our vehicles geared to match thus it isn't a problem. This is where you read Sideways' Signature about "making tq at higher rpm and taking advantage of gearing".

The bad news is lots of tq = LOTS OF STRESS. If you demand that our motors make 400hp at 4,000rpm you'll get 525.2ft/lbs of tq. HOWEVER you will very badly stress your motor out since the rods for example will be taking an incredible amount of force to create that much hp with so few strokes up and down. Assuming that the cars top end can handle it why not spin the motor faster and let the pistons hit more times to create hp rather then ask them to hit fewer times and make more hp? Think about how much easier this is on your motor. IMO it is the TQ increase that puts the most wear on the F20/22c rather then the max hp. Of course spinning high RPM can be damaging its self since the piston and rod assembly alone must go in one direction, stop and then turn around rapidly, but consider the fact they'll have less load on them at least that way. Perhaps this is why honda chose to make the car have a high redline.

Just some thoughts, and some is opinion, some is fact. Oh as far as ARP Studs vs. OEM bolts. I would go OEM bolts, unless you want more then 14psi..... In which case you should and have to go ARP to keep the head from possibly floating. ...IMO

oh shouldn't have left out, one of the major ways is to make sure your turbo is spooling very early, thus making lots of hp at low rpm...which we know = tq.

what turbo are you running?

The f20 or even the f22 for that matter is never going to be a torque monster. If you want an engine to rev to 9k then you have to give up low end torque. If you want an engine to make gobs of torque get an engine that has a long stroke so that it can make lots of torque at low rpm, but then you cant rev high because the piston speeds are going to be astronomical.

Basically what im saying is the s2000 F series engines are made to have a flat torque curve and have a short stroke which means...they are not going to be torque monsters. You can learn how to launch a 4 clylinder with a turbo and get good times out of it, but you have to dial in a lot of rpms off the line to get into the torque band...but it is possible just takes a good driver. Sure your dad's camaro makes lots of torque off the line but if you both were at 40mph and did a race from a roll a 450whp s2000 will most likely beat that 480ish whp camaro due to less weight and holding power MUCH better in high rpms where the s2k engine is at its best.

yeah, but my fam is all into drag races, especially in an 1/8 mile. i am the only only one that likes the 1/4 mile. i wish i could get them to race form a roll. but my dad and one of my brothers just give me so much shit because they ran an 11.50 with less hp and more weight and really just downgrade imports. I would love to get them atleast once. they do run a 200 shot of nitrous and usually get down to mid 10s.

an 1/8 mile is a terrible race for an s2k because its all on the launch. Sure their v8's are gonna do better there. Take them out on the street and then lets see whos car is one dimensional ( theirs ) and which isnt ( yours ). Unless its in a straight line the s2k is a much better everything else.

I mean, you could drop a nitrous shot on your setup but it would be risky since you will really be working those rod bolts then.

It isn't terrible on an S2000 with slicks.

its terrible on all s2000's sorry to hate. I think the best times not breaking into 9's hardly on a s2000 is a joke.

I can build out a old 69 whatever for 15K and break into 9's. Lame. SPEAKING OF!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Today in Brea I rolled up next to a guy driving a Orange Nova, full cage and race setup. Huge pipes sittin underneath and large rear tires... I knew I was in to loose. He kinda looked at me like YA RIGHT, so I let the waste gate open under full boost. I got a slight look of surprise from him so he stomped it. Watching the front tires almost come off the ground it was quite clear at 40mph that I wasn't going to win . I jumped on it as he jumped on it about 1.5 seconds and he surged ahead. I gave him the thumbs up and railed a corner above .90G's.....something his won't do

Fact is the s2000 is VERY MUCH not a drag car. You couldn't hardly pick a worse car then the s2000 considering it's overall potential. Tell your family to put their confederate flags down for 5 minutes and hit a canyon with you.

Not to hate or judge but my old man is a muscle car standard kinda guy who thinks the 350 chevy is the best thing since ice cream. Mind you I can't hate on the Shelby Cobra 427 kit car at 2000lbs and 800whp in the garage.

Still we'll both hammer our family member's cars in the place that the car was designed to be.....on the track. So race him from 80-0. Then race him with corner exit speed. Then race them in a slalom. Then race the 1/8th mile and see who won the overall

not to say your family is redneck is like i made em out to be but I figure they think a mustang outranks an S2000 most likely. They're the type perhaps that is only grading your car on one scale. Simply not fair to the S. My old man only had to go around about one city block in my car before he said DAMN....ok I guess I can cut it some slack.

much love for the track cars,
-Greg
