I'm pretty sure the coils are 5v trigger. The emu is providing a signal to the SCR's, not the actual ignition pulse. I've seen many comments about the coils dieing at 12v due to overheating. It makes since to me seeing as 5v is TTL voltage. The jumper is the overall output voltage too. How would the emu adjust timing if it strictly used the ecu's inputs as source? The vtec wires do run through the emu on my harness. I instantly threw a cel past 6k on my initial runs. After checking wiring, and even installing led's on the in and out wires, I finally installed the software and drivers, and plugged in the laptop. Sure enough, the basemap had the "auxiliary air input" radio button set to none instead of aux out. I set it to OUT and the car ran ok. I don't know if I got an off kit or what. I have a cast manifold, so I don't think it's an early kit. I still like the kit. I just don't trust the emu with my thousands of dollars worth of engine now. You're right about my first tune though, garbage. I sure could use that money right now.

that has nothing to do with the fact that it was a greddy kit. Doesn't matter what turbo is on there. Has to do with the tuning. Any engine mods like FI, header, intake, etc, can technically lower the life of a stock cat if the engine isn't running optimally (tuned). The cat was made to handle the emissions of a stock engine, so there are no guarantees for cat life length outside of those boundaries.

oh and i've driven my kit for over 6k miles w/ my cat still fully functional.

oh, and the cat life after FI will also depend on how old the cat is at the point of install. My car only had about 16k mi at time of install, so it's pretty new.
I didn't mean it is specifically the Greddy kit. I just said that because it's a greddy thread.

Let me re-phrase....any turbo will kill a stock cat, the bigger the turbo, the quicker it will die.

Calibration of the dyno matters. Without proof of a baserun, his numbers mean nothing. Not hating, just an observation.

x 100

delta from baseline to tuned means everything!

Forgive my memory, I worked directly under Benny when he was head Ultimate tuner at GReddy, but I

Wow, didn't know you worked for greddy. I hope my post wasn't taken as an assault on your work. I like the kit, it's just extremely frustrating right now. I see your point on the 12v and possible hysteresis. I may hook my scope up to one of the triggers and see how it's doing. I may have the wrong harness. I am absolutely sure the vtec solenoid signal runs through my emanage, and is controlled by the Aux Air line. I agree with you, in that it provides no value, as the oil sensor isn't wired up. I also remembered after my post last night, that the emu has been breaking the usb link a lot. I have to pull the usb cord, and plug it back in. It works great when it works. FYI: I did see an AP1 sticker on the emu when it was new.

Don't worry, no offense taken. I used to work for them, but resigned recently. If you think your emanage is bad, you might want to send it in for warranty, it has a 1 year warranty. If it's bad, it can be replaced.

My friend recently purchased my Greddy turbo kit AP1 and for some reason his car is having problems. After 10 seconds of turning the car on, it automatically shuts off. The map in the emanage has been tuned to 8psi and is not the standard basemap that came with the kit. Is that the problem? He is not running a boost controller, so would he need the basemap to run his car? I called Greddy today but they were a little tied up assist me. Can anyone help?

He needs to run the basemap and get tuned.
