You cant really mess up in a major way unless you dont put the bolts in somehow. It is pretty obvious once you have it apart and look at the pictures in the linked thread.

so you wont bend valves if it is off a little. you will only bent/break if you dont bolt it back up.

I mean you physically cant move the gear enough with the pin out and the bolts in but loosened to cause interference.

that is good to know. im glad i never sold that head gasket. i bought it from john lee a long time ago and never used it on my ap1. so you dont have to pull the front cover or the oil pan. you just lay the chain resting on the guide. is it really hard to get the chain bolted back on due to the head gasket size?

Not hard as you don't have the chain tensioner in at the time.

It is hard to get the tensioner back in after you put the chain on, dont be scared at how tight it is, the guides will wear to the correct spec very quickly. I was very concerned about this when I installed my gasket.

that would have been one of my concerns on if it had a chance to break the guide. i dont understand the bolt in the tensioner part. the only chain driven motor i have worked with is the 4b11 and the sr20.

Are you referring to the bolts that hold in the tensioner, or the bolt that is used to keep the tensioner in one piece when it is removed?
