Default HELP:Difficulty removing crank pulley bolt w/ tool

Hello
Im installing the vortech v3 kit for my 07

Having trouble taking off the crankshaft pulley bolt.
I do have the crankshaft pulley tool, and was using a breaker bar + ratchet on the pulley tool.
I ordered this one from amazon http://www.amazon.com/Powerbuilt-648796-Cr...l/dp/B0000TMLWQ.

my friend and I were not able to get it loose.
We also tried heating it up which gave no results.

Any suggestions out there for those with experience?
Im planning on buying another breaker bar from harbor freights tomorrow and giving it another try.

Thanks in advance
& Happy New Year

More leverage!

I've done it a few times....we've used breaker bars with hollow floor jack handles over the breaker bars for more leverage. Make sure you put some towels on the fenders, cause when it breaks loose you don't want to damage anything.

You're using 2 breaker bars correct? One connected to the pulley removal tool, and one with a socket on the nut holding the pulley on.

Will steady pressure work or do you have to apply sudden pressure to "break" it loose?

When my mates crank pulley came apart (Supra's 2 piece design) I just jacked the car up, placed a socket over the bolt (full faced) and then had a tonne of leverage and then placed it tight against the floor and cranked over the engine a tiny bit...

starter motor just popped it loose and made it very easy indeed... unsure how much damage this would cause to the starter motor, but if it can (if left in gear) propel a car, then undoing a bolt is bugger all

edit: p.s. ENSURE THAT THE CAR IS NOT IN GEAR!! My dickhead mate was stupid enough to keep it in gear and the car almost land on top of me (I was to the side but still a tyre + fat ass supra on the arm would not be too fun!!!)

I found it surprisingly easy, but I'm fairly strong.

I used a homemade crank pulley tool and a small block of 2x4. I had it so the handle of the crank pulley tool would rest against the 2x4 block which rested against the shock tower. I then put the handle from one of my floor jacks over my ratchet and it came off with ease for me. Make sure to use a 6-pt socket.

The last time I removed one with Telos we had the motor out of the car. It was like a game of see saw, we kept lifting the other into the air lol

Use 1/2" drive breaker bar with the handle from a floor jack for extra leverage, 6 point socket.

I share your pain , i too had a lot of difficulty with my old motor.

I can see where 'nickamsweet' is coming from and it works, but you can easily **** it up this way. I'd do this on a shit old car but not my S2000.

We used WD40 etc all the way through.

I too had great difficulty removing my crank pulley for my Sc install.

1. Me and my mate used massive mole grips and a bar/proper tool - this didn't work as we snapped 2 bars and tried scaffolding poll too.

2. Tried with a impact gun but due to lack of space and strength of the machine this didn't work either.

3. Honda tried with with the proper honda tool and bar - they snapped the bar.

4. Finally i took it to a garage, they heated it up used a impact gun with an extension then finally used some sort of knocking hammer tool this free'd it.

Be careful not too heat the bolt up too much or you'll knacker the oil seal. People say man up, I'm not a weedy guy far from me neither is my mate but we still had difficulty.

Remember its the 'shock' that releases it, don't give up .

That's why I did it on the Supra haha

It can go wrong like socket not being secure on the bolt then damaging it, sheering something I dunno... I would most likely do it again even on my car as it was so easy, but try everything else first and use as a last resort??
