Default Hey - A Couple Questions

So I'm finally going to be getting my first S2000 (2004) and had a couple questions about FI.

I'm looking for a turbo kit that give a power increase, reliability and evens out the torque and horse power. I'm looking for about 300hp/tq to the wheels and was considering the Ultimate Racing kit.

I would appreciate any feed back and info that you guys might have on this kit or any others that you might know.

theres so many differetn kits to look at. with a small displacement FI motor, typically you will have way more hp then tq. to have one thats even would be diesel like power band.

greddy kit is the only one that spools so quick you get a tq hump down low.

300hp is like 220 tq.

ultimate racing, inline pro, mase turbo, greddy, just to name a few turbo kits.

then theres SC kits as well, CT, VT, KW, SOS, SXM/SOT.

whats your ultimate power goal, thats really what you need to ask yourself. and what are you gonna do with the car, autox, HPDE, or just street driving.

sweet sig pic.

Wow where to begin with all that...lol

It will be my daily driver as well as weekend track car that is why I want the reliability. This is the set up I was looking at I guess the even torque is a pipe dream...lol

AP1 Gen 3 Turbo Kit - AEM EMS, 785cc Injectors, 3" Exhaust, 3" High-Flow Cat, 15psi Boost, 93 Octane, 2mm Head Gasket, Head Studs
Max Horsepower: 410.82 whp
Max Torque: 284.05 ft.lbs

I don't want to run this much power right away but I would like the option to up it later when I get more comfortable with the car and or board with the power.

I would back off the boost down to 10psi and not use a head gasket then if it is your daily driver. That will give you mid 300 hp and about low mid 200 tq. I used to live in Mississauga way back when

Well I wasn't going to run the max power out of it at first but I would like the upgrade possability in the futur and I figure if I started with a bigger kit then in the long run it would work out cheaper.

Well good tuners can get you 400+ hp on the stock headgasket easily. You can run a high and low boost setting on the same kit so that is an option.

Just never been a fan of headgaskets for this car. They are really only needed for high hp applications and lots of boost pressure and are prone to failure. If you do go the hg route, stay away from cometic and go with inline pro.

So you think that this kit would be ok leaving the head gasket out or getting a different one? What is the problem with replacing head gaskets and why do they fail?

You should really start searching through some threads. There is a lot of info on them. If installed right that can work well and some people have had them in their cars for awhile. Others have had them blow out within 500 miles. It depends really, some due to poor manufacturing, others due to not sealing gasket properly etc. Again, if done right they can be reliable but why go to that expense if all you want is 300-400hp.

That is a good point and I don't really think I'm ever going to really go over 400hp I don't think you really need it in a car like this. If I want to go faster I'll just take the 550whp R32 skyline we have to the track...LOL

This was also something I was thinking of maybe not right at first but down the road. What kinda cost would I be looking at and parts are needed? What setup are you running?
