A friend of mine had his GM solenoid fail on him last week,he would have popped his motor if it were not for his boost cut he had set on his standalone ECU.

So instead of replacing it with the same part that might fail again,he replaced it with something alot better at a cheaper price.I currently have the GM solenoid hooked up,but it's coming out pretty quick and being replaced with the Mac valve I recently purchased, even though there's nothing wrong with the GM part at the moment.

Which solenoid are you using?
I think it is fair to say that all parts are capable of failing at some point. People shouldn't rely on one source of boost control, and thankfully for your friend he had a "back-up".

I am using the GM boost control solenoid. I ordered this part for my wife's Evo as well.

Hondata just released a higher quality solenoid in order to correct the failure that sometimes occurs with the GM product.
Correct, they are using a rebadged Mac Valve.

I saw that...and in fact I think I created a thread about it about a month ago.

Yeah I think I remember that, was just throwing it out there.

BTW, got the Kpro installed and am currently using RSX wideband.

Yes,all parts are capable of failing, but I would not use a part if they have a high failure rate. The Mac valve is a industrial part,it's made to certain standards of quality control. The Mac valve is designed as a closed valve, which means if something were to go wrong,it will shut closed and you will be running on wastegate pressure. The GM solenoid is a open valve, when it fails,it is wide open and you will hit max pressure and most likely cause big time damage to your engine.

True, people should not rely on one source of boost control, but when AEM,Hondata,Motec,Apexi,Turbosmart,HDi,ECtune,Gred dy and many more all now use the Mac valve,it's pretty clear why they chose it over the GM part.

You should give the Mac valve a try,it cost less than the GM part and you won't be disappointed by how much better it is over the GM solenoid.

Can we organise a GB on the Mac solenoid? I'd love to get one but might be a bit hard from Aus.
