Default How big is TOO BIG

This is my old turbo along with the one i just bought. The old one is a T3/T4 The new one is a GT42. I wasnt expecting the turbo to be this big and im wondering if its TOO BIG. I only have a 38mm wastegate that im not willing to part with, and i dont think it will be big enough to get the job done. Second im wondering what the spool time will be, I dont want to wait until 7K before i have power. Im only looking for 12psi on low boost(daily driving) and 19psi MAX on high boost(racing). Im considering just keeping my old turbo now. What do you guys think.

EDIT: I didnt realize that these pics were so DECEIVING. The new turbo in real life is EASILY TWICE the size of the old one.

i think the GT42 is way to big for the engine, a gt35r is enough. the gt35r with .82 will be spool by 4700 rpm.

do you have built engine? the gt42 is for 600+ setup =/

Sell it and get a GT30R. What were you thinking when you bought the GT42?

One of my boys had it on his supra and he somehow blew the seals on it so he sent it off and had it rebuilt, Somthing happend and it was taking to long so he bought another turbo. So when he got this one back he sold it to me for a pretty good price. I thought i had a decently sized turbo and just wanted a LITTLE more. But dont get me wrong I knew it was bigger than mine and it looked big in his car but not THAT BIG.

I'd start with a, "how much power do i want to make?" or "how fast of a 1/4 do I want?" and pick another turbo.

you'll make around 460-470whp with a good tune. I say get a GT35R and you'll be set.
