Default How much boost is safe ?

Here's my setup.

ap1
3mm headgasket
ID 1000cc injectors
Mini-me lovefab
GT35r 0.82 a/r
3" asura exhaust.

Oh ya. And we get 94 octane fuel here.

Made 433whp @14-15psi on the dyno.

On the street I was seeing 17-18psi and it ran great! Had plenty of fuel up top and was FAST.

I was worried so I told my tuner to turn it down, I'm running 15psi on teh street now.....

Anyways, long story short. I ran a modded vette tonight and lost. So the childish side of me wants to load the original map. The tune seems to be solid and the 2 days i was running 17-18psi it really didn't have a hickup....

Should I be worried to be runnign 17-18psi?

If you werent tuned for 17-18 then yes I would be a little concerned. It could be safe but you wont ever know so keep the boost at what you tuned it for.

get tuned at 20 psi for a high boost tune and keep your current map for low boost.

Well I wasn't tuned for 17-18. But that's the map he tuned for me. He said he didnt' see more than 14-15psi on teh dyno because you dont' see as much load.....

But 17-18psi is the map i left the tuner with....

If he tuned you for 14-15 then he should have taken you to 17-18 on the map just for boost creep issues. Most tuners will go a little higher up the map just to be safe. If you are worried about the HG you should be fine to 22-24#. Just make sure to get tuned for it. It should be less then an hour to fix the map up top.

You need to get tuned on a boost comp map and then you can turn the boost up and down to a certain extent and the tune will always be the same. I can go anywhere from 10 psi to 35 psi and my A/F and timing is always the same.

That's what I meant to ask. I wasn't worried about the tune. I was worried about the motor/ headgasket.

with the 3mm headgasket you'll be fine. But like anything else, if its not tuned for the amount of boost youre running youll have problems. Or you can get lucky. Here's the thing. If you look at your maps, there are columns for different boost levels. Usually the next column is already set for the "x" amount of timing and fuel which is most likely on point for being safe which is what the other guy was explaining to you are that safety for boost creep/spike. As long as your AF's are good im sure it will be okay, but just get with him and ask.

My rule based on feedback from the forum and other research and conversations with tuners...

20-21psi or 500hp what ever comes first.

Based on stock block ILP 3mm hg and 93..don't beat on it

I would set up two tunes (hi/lo) or one tune and a switch that lets you run off the WG, or both.
