Ok...I got some sound numbers tonight with this meter: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.c...tnumber=390-722

In-car windows rolled up/down did not seem to matter. Microphone was anywhere from just next to my head (right ear) to just above the center console just behind the shifter (again, did not seem to mater much where I put it) Meter was set to "MAX HOLD" with the wind screen installed.

Using anywhere from half to full throttle from 2500 - 4500 rpm only, achieved a consistent 99db - 101db max level. It would seem that a comfortable maximum IN-CAR level would be around the 88db - 91db or so level (just my opinion).

I also had the car on a back road and got out and placed the meter about 10 - 12 feet behind the car on the ground centered between the tips with the mic facing the car...the result was similar at 101db - 102db.

Although this is NOT the most scientific method, I just wanted to get some rough measurements.

I have a short video and I will be trying to get it up here very soon if I can. I have NO experience with this as of yet.

More to come...

Thank you, Brian
Is there any DOT normal test proceedure done that you should be following? I dont know, just asking... Making sure the same test standards are followed as most people may see published for other exhausts.

whether or not there is a specific test for DOT is irrelevant, as what he did is what i have done in my car and can attest to the boomyness of that kinda volume. granted mine is at 105+, so 99-101 would be a significant improvement, but low 90's/hi 80's would be a killer success.

i hope john makes some tweaks to the system to make it better.

well the interior noise is what it is of course. I was refering to the outside testing. DOT etc does not test inside volume.

I dont forsee Hytech making any revision to further cancel sound inside. a 5-6 db drop over what you have is pretty significant difference.

Dyno day scheduled!

Finally! My car will be getting re-tuned on Friday Sept 10th.

Some details:

Comparo will be between the J's header a Berk 70mm test pipe and the Hytech twinloop exhaust (again 2.75" to dual 2.5") vs the Hytech long tube S/C header and corresponding 2.75" test pipe and the Hytech twinloop exhaust.

I will also be installing ID1000 injectors before this test so BOTH tunes will be WITH the ID1000's.

May the best header/ TP combo win!

Brian
