I don't want to discourage you from taking on this project, but here are a few things to keep in mind.

1. It will be months and months of work. You will not be able to drive your cat AT ALL during that time. You will probably miss it, which may cause you to abandon the project in the middle, and loose a lot of money.

2. Reliability. I don't think I need to say much on this point. You will have lots and lots of major and/or minor issues even after you finish the project

3. Cost. You think it will only cost you $10k. Budget at least twice that, just because of all the things that WILL come up during the build. Cost-wise, spending $6-7k on a transmission may seem like a lot, but then you won't have to worry about it. Besides, you should've already sorted out most of the issues that motor has by now.

Like I said, don't want to discourage you, just want to make sure that you think about it before hand, so you don't end up loosing your motivation, time, money, etc in this project.

Well to the guys that are haters on this thread. My dad has an LS1 in the garage and a 350(carborated) both with trannys. But even if not, i have already found a few ls1s with trannys for prices btw 1000$ and 3000$ in the garage. I will ouse one of these if my brother and I can figure this out. I will most likely use the ls1 and put a single turbo on it. I am not thinking this is going to be TOO HARD. my family builds V8 muscle cars. thats what they love. i am the odd one. i will want to keep the motor far enough back to keep the weight distribtution the same(close). alot depends on if my bro thinks this is doable. If so then we will go with it. if not then i will prob sale my car .

the fact that you you didn't realize what I mean by saying lsX (and maying thinking an lsX is a motor?) makes me really wonder...at any rate I have dreamed of doing the same swap. Just doing that without any THOUGHTS of turbo would be very very expensive. even so..is turbo really necesary after that?

If I remember right you posted a while back about 1/8 and 1/4 mile race times in ur s...

your family was into american muscle and drag racing.

SELL THE CAR. It was not built for that and it will not accept it well. Turbo LS motor? Dude you can make 1000whp EASILY with Turbo V8's. You get that kinda hp and tq and your gonna flex the unibody so damn badly it''ll be a joke.

Alllll in the wrong direction. Either sell your car and drag race ur 68 camaro or be happy with the S...track it with an F20c in it.

-Greg

just my thoughts.

not only that but the rear suspension is horrible for drag, independent no less, 10 seconds of wheel hop and the S has moved 30 feet while the Nova in the next lane easily flipped a 9flat.
