Gap is .24 peak boost in the cold with baffles in is 20 psi 18.5psi open exhaust. I only started getting problems after the valve cover seals started leaking some time during the bmt tour which was 1500 miles of hammering on the car. We didn't get cold air till a few days ago that's when the problem started. I swapped coils with more miles on them and the problem got much worse so I want to know if the ap2 coils put out more voltage under the resistance of dense air with water/methanol. I ask because the ap1 coils seem to have a larger primary coil. I will cut them both open to find out if the wire gauge is different or the magnet stronger. I just don't want to chase the problem if others have already solved it plus the ap1 coils are 77$ versus 45$ for 04-05 which would make the wife happy but if they are fried in another 30k than its better to go ap1? any info would be great I also found some cbr1000 coils with there harness if they work best. thanks guy's n gals

I thought the ap2 coils were better, maybe just cheaper. I don't know, that's what I ran, I've got a box full of both in various conditions. With the colder temps (more fuel) and water meth injection (puts more demands on spark) I found I had to run about .22 gap with stock coils with the same set up. If your not well measured with your water/meth ratios and end up with more water in the mix, you will flood the spark out even more. So you might try 100% meth, close the plug gap etc. You should be fine on good working stock coils with the right combination of things. I was at 19psi in winter months no problem once I got everything balanced.

I use the MSD 8232 external coils controlled by M&W Pro-Drag4. Been working flawless up to 11k rpm.
