Default Ignition options? Coils, plugs and stuff.

Have some time to kill since I´m waiting for engine parts and started thinking about the ignition system.
A lot of info on this board but very spread out and hard to find when you need it.

RSP´s running Boost a spark, FBM had to change to Denso plugs, boostedf22c´s running AEM´s ignition and other high hp guys talk about Acura coils.

Can´t make up my mind, please help me out guys. Really prefer to keep things simple without extra parts and boxes but will go that route if needed.
Are there any race coils for stock location available?

NGK 8´s most of the time and Denso´s as upgrade or maybe NGK 9´s?

I run 9's with Q16, my ignition breaks up around 23psi. I am thinking about getting Kenne Bell BAS, but want to get the rear end in order for the summer

I would go with KB BAS

23psi is early, hmm, close already.

Wish we had options like upgraded coils, we run 1000hp on the OEM Volvo coils without problems. The BMW Turbo guys use VW´s 115R coils, popular because of low price and strong spark.

The main reason for asking is that these problems often show up i the dyno when you paid a lot for the tune. Would be cool to take care of the problem before it appear (for the first time).

For what its worth I ran the OEM AP2 coils at ~550 hp and needed to gap down my NGK 8's to 0.025 to maintain clean runs. I upgraded to the Okada coils and I was able to keep the pregap of 0.030 with no ignition breakup at the same hp.

Okada coils and AEM Coils fit in the factory location. I'm running Denso IK24 spark plugs gapped to. 018.

from what i have read, kenne bell boost a spark and your good till atleast 700+whp on the stock stuff. realstreet just showed that he was having spark problems at 25ish psi and now solid past 30psi.

i would try that first before going full on ignition build.

Doing what Full Blowns S2k is doing.

K series coil packs. Seems like LJ had great success at 700-800whp on K coil packs. They are also very cheap. Got mine for 40 bucks. LJ got his for 50 bucks I believe.

Like everyone mentioned, I am running Denso plugs with OEM K20 coils. I've been able to ignite 2600cc worth of E85 and 38psi of boost. I was working on an ignition system but decided to ditch that because no matter what box you use, they will fail at some point on a street car. I didn't like the idea of possibly getting stranded somewhere when that happens.

Yeah, have the same trust in aftermarket control units, always fail when you need it the most.
Sometimes the stronger spark add a few hp and sad to miss that part on the other hand. Hmmm...

Did you guys buy new K20 coils? Something you sell LJ?
