Inline Pro Kit - AEM 1052 Issue
Hey guys, my friend is having a serious issues with this kit he purchased used a few months back. He has an inline pro kit Turbo with an AEM 1052, Injectors 650, walbro fule pump, no temp gauge, no boost gage, no a/f gauge. Problems he is having..
His s2000 is a 2002. Dyno was fine originally making 330 and 220 torque.
1. Ever since he got the kit installed the car has been turning off on him. He will be driving and the car will first hesitate, make a clicking noise that seems to be coming from the cluster, as he tries to accelerate the rms will start going down while pressing the accelerator and then it just turns off. Sometimes though, it will hesitate and catch and it wont turn off.
On higher rpm's, it seems to be happening less.
2. His gas mileage is horrible. He filled it up with 5 gallons and after 15-20 miles, he had to refill his tank..
He has tried to talk to the person who sold him the kit but he has not been very helpful.
Do you guys think its a problem with the AEM? Ive heard of issues with the aem's earlier model but not the new one.
Any recommendations will be much appreciated.

Was the AEM tuned on a car before his, then he took the whole turbo setup with the tuned AEM and put it on his car?
If so he needs to have a tuner check it over. No two cars are the same, so no surprise that it would be running poorly between two different cars.

Hey guys thanks for the response. So you think he is flooding the car. Is this a common thing that happens when the aem is sending too much fuel.
He tuned the aem to his own car. He has been wanting to get a a/f gauge but has not had the opportunity.
So basically I should tell him its a tuning setting with his aem thats causing all these problems?

But if you say there is a clicking behind the cluster or in the dash and this causes the car to die, then it might be something like a main relay that is powering the AEM.

If he had the car tuned when he put the kit on the car, then I would definitely suggest getting it checked over by the tuner.

My car did sort of the same thing. I ended up pulling the ECU out and some of the connections had a slight green film of corrosion so I hit it with some CRC electrical parts cleaner and solved the issue.
Any tuner is going to tell your friend, he needs to get a AF gauge on the car and hooked up to the AEM so he can get a log of the issue.
