Installing comptech SC, need some help/advice
I recently bought a Comptech SC. I will hopefully be putting it in in a few weeks but I am not very experienced under the hood. I have done oil changes in the past and installed CAIs, and various electrical crap but nothing like this. My friend has installed some turbos in the past and hopefully he can help be with this because I am sure it is similar. It also seems like a lot of people with my level experience have installed the kit successfully and said it was a great learning experience so that is why I was going to attempt it myself. What I was hopping to do is try to install the kit in pieces since it seems somethings can be done ahead of time. I just have some questions after reading info on this thread and the install manuals.
1) I just want to run stock boost. the used kit comes with everything new except for the fuel pump which I have already bought. It also has a tapped pulley. Is there anything else I would need to buy besides gauges to tune the AFR?
2) what gauges will I all need? I was just going to get a wideband and a boost gauge. I would get a 3rd but I haven't seen a pillar pod for the s2k that fits 3 gauges
3) where should I get a pod for the gauges and what gauges would be good? I have been looking at glowshift gauges but they don't make a pod for the s2k
4) How do I install the wideband gauge? Would I have to weld something into the exhaust or is there already a present place to put the sensor? I have a comptech exhaust so I don't know if that makes a difference. Anyway I have never welded anything so if I have to I might have to pay to get it done or ask a friend. I just haven't found any info about this for s2k owners.
5) Is there any tool I would need to check the tension on the pulley after it is installed? The install manual wasn't very clear.
6) what parts or steps can I perform before I start the installation. (AKA what steps in the install can I do before hand that wont prevent me from driving the car before the install is completed) I was hopping to install the new fuel pump and black box before hand so when I do the install I will already have those steps done. It works out for me because if I have a friend help I might only have them for a limited time and don't want to waste it performing steps I could probably do myself. I was also going to do some of the body modifications and drilling ahead of time also but is there anything else I could do ahead of time and still be able to drive the car?
7) what type of oil should I use and how much do I need?
8) my torque wrench doesn't go as high as the crank needs to be tightened. Can I just guess the remaining amount or do i need to buy a new one?
thanks

I am not gonna speak about the comptech installation as I dont have experience in that particular one, but about your 8) Do not guess the torque. Buy/Borrow a torquewrench somewhere is my advice. How much torque is missing on the scale of your wrench?
4. You would have to get an extra bung welded in, most likely in the header. The other option is to buy a test pipe with 2 bungs like the one SOS carries.

1. Using the stock pulley (should be ~4.4-4.5" diameter for AP1), you'll be fine using the Comptech supplied FPR and a wideband.
2. Boost and wideband AFR are a perfect combo for a stock kit.
3. Not sure where to get the pillar pod, but there is a vendor having a sale on the complete wideband kit. I think it's Gruppe-s. It's ~$200 shipped. That's all you need for the wideband install, and you need an extra bung, or to weld the adapter to your header/cat.
4. Typically it would go into an extra spot on an aftermarket header, or in an extra spot in a hi flow cat/test pipe. You can always have an extra bung welded in. Most kits should come with the metal piece that would need to be welded.
5. Tension on the belt? You shouldn't be able to turn the belt more than 90 degrees. If you can turn it more than 90 degrees, it's too loose.
6. Probably just fuel pump, and wideband.
7. I still use Mobil 1 synthetic. I think the kit adds another 0.5 quart. So you'd be fine with ~6 quarts.
8. Buy or rent a new torque wrench. This is a necessity.
I just recently had my Comptech kit installed a couple weeks ago, and I love it. I also just installed my wideband this past Friday. I did a lot of reading and research on the forums. Good luck!

1)Alright. Well I am still looking for a 2 bung test pipe. If I cant find one i guess ill have to have someone weld one in the stock cat.
2) Also Should I be getting an electric or mechanical boost gauge? Would I need a stand alone EMS for the electronic?
3) the best prices I have been able to find for a dual gauge pillar pod are $55-$80. Is this a fair price? I have been looking at the SOS pods.
