Default Tune question

I'm looking to buy a turbo kit that is tuned for an ap2. Is it safe to run on my ap1 with the tune as-is, or will the different motors have too big off a difference?

I have a wideband that i could monitor it with but i really want to avoid getting it retuned if at all possible.

thanks,
-dan

Regardless of AP1 or AP2, you will need to get it tuned for YOUR motor.

I'd suggest you hang out a little and do some research, ask questions like you are doing (congrats) before you jump into anything.

The AP2 has 10% more displacement and doesn't rev as high as the AP1. So, your tune will likely run a bit rich on the bottom end. Your tune will need to be touched up but it's not like the tuner will be starting from scratch. If it's a solid tune, a good tuner should be able to touch up your map 30 minutes or so.

Good luck and enjoy!

retune. and depending on how jacked the og tune is, tuner might just use his own to work from.

OR. learn how to tune and try on your own.

Ok thanks guys. Main reason o didn't want a retune was because I don't know of anyone that can tune an emanage in Ohio. I've been studying and trying to learn for myself. Will the currnt time he good enough for a basemap ? Like could I drive on it for a week?

The F22 consumes more fuel so without a tune you will likely be running richer with the f20. You of course will be able to see this on your wideband to confirm a safe afr. Being the E-manage, if your afr looks good like running above 10.5 across the rpm range then I might be inclined to just drive it IF the partial throttle was orginally set up right to begin with. Chances are the tuner wont even look at the timing map if he is like the typical guys we have around here. I take more risk then some, so keep that in mind too.

i woud not. heres the problem. the tune is for the wrong motor, but ignore that for a moment, and realize that you have no idea how solid that tune is, so even if it was for your motor, you still have no idea how to log and make sure its good.

between those two problems, i wouldnt drive at all on that tune. eman makes it harder tooo cuase you have to fund someone that knows that. evans or elite tuning might be able to do something over the internets

I disagree.

If you're going to drive around without dipping into boost, I think you'll be fine. It's not like your motor is going to detonate while running around in vacuum. Don't rev it out, don't step on it...just put around until you can get to a tuner that can touch up your tune.

If the kit has been run on an AP2 reliably then it should certainly run fine on an F20C putting around at partial throttle.

Resist the urge to drive hard...don't test it until you can get to a tuner or learn what you're doing.

Agreed with the other guy, make sure your tuner looks at ignition map.
