Hello,

I am going to be putting on another head in about a month. While in there, I figure I'll go ahead and remove the Hondata IMG that was put on when this engine was put in the car.

My question is, should I go ahead and replace the headgasket while the head is off? Engine is a f20c with newer oil jet bolts, and probably 95k miles?

Also, should I get new headstuds? I think someone said they stretch, and so wouldn't be reusable? If need to be replaced, OEM or ARP?

Just want to make sure I have everything necessary.

You can have the ARP's that I am using with the head if you are referring to mine..... They have only been used once. Go ahead and pick up a new stock head gasket. That's all I was using.

Others chime in if he can re-use my ARP's or if he needs new ones.

 

it's always recommended to replace headgasket and NEW headstuds when taking head out or replacing head. make sure you resurface the other head you putting on too. OEM is fine unless you going boosted or supercharge then ARP. but either way ARP is stronger and better.

 

The stock bolts are a stretch to yield type bolt. They are not recommended to be reused. The Arp Studs are fine depending on how much power you are making.

 

Stock head bolt are not torque to yield. There is a stretch measurement in the Manual. New head bolts do have a different installed torque than previously used bolts.

Anytime a head is removed from any engine the headgasket should be replaced.

You are right, I assumed then were torque to yield. Ive found them to stretch tremendously on boosted cars. Even the standard ARPs stretch under boost or slight detonation. We have been searching around for a solution better then the standard arps. We will have some L19s available by Feb.

 

I am only running 15 psi right now, will eventually turn it up when I can convert to e85, that'll be another half year to a year
