Default Joe Alaniz out of business?

Has anyone spoken with Joe Alaniz lately? Has he gone out of business? I have been unable to get in touch with him for nearly three months now.

I sent my head to him in October with a $500 deposit with a completion date before 1/2006. He called me in February to tell me that the head was "ready to ship" and he needed full payment. Since he does not accept a credit card, I sent a check. He cashed the check, but I didn't receive the head. I called him back ... and after a week he said that he had not finished it yet.

Since then he has not returned calls or emails (almost three months). He does not answer his phone.

Any suggestions on how to reach him?

My experience with Alaniz Technologies.

I am not saying that Joe is a bad guy, he does amazing work. However his customer service, ability to meet deadlines, and communication skills are lacking severely.

Truly sorry to hear of this situation, personally I would recommend shooting him an email.

Email is the only reliable way to get him.

Maybe some of you Socal guys can stop by and beat down his door. I've been in contact with Yakrat since before the Head was sent off, He's even tried calling from a calling card and seperate area codes. Anything from AL or LA doesn't get answered.

Joe's been paid. At this point it's criminal to keep the $ and not send him his head back.

Joe is very hard to reached. I called him 2 times a day during the week to speak with Him.

At the end I sent my head to Ballistic Motorsports.

He is a honest man but very very busy

I had the same problem trying to communicate with him. Called him straight for a whole month, left messages this and that and finally called me back out of a miracle.
I believe e-mail is the better option here but is still pretty bad.

I would not recommend that kind of customer service level to anyone. Go somewhere else. However, his work is pretty good.

I experienced the same issues with Joe. Communication and deadlines are largely igorned. I believe he means well; though I disagree on the quality of his work.

When building my motor he reversed intake and exhaust cams. Motor of course would not start. He insisted his setup was absolutely perfect and that the starting problem had to be something else with the car.

Numerous hours, purchase and recoding of a new ECU, complete check of electrical system ... car still didn't start (of course). Joe still insisted that it wasn't a problem with his motor build and promised to cover all costs if it was.

After three weeks of trying everything else, we finally started looking at the motor and quickly discovered the fvck up with the cams. Joe never covered any of the costs.

The competition built motor from Joe cost me $9k. Not counting the cost and hassle of fixing the reversal of the cams issue. Rather than the 3 months promised, it took 10. End result of all of that expense and hassle was an extra 16 RWHP. Motor failed with less than 3k miles on it.

Joe was a stand up guy and stood behind the motor as he said he would and rebuilt it. As I mentioned I do believe he is well intentioned. His attention to detail and quality of work though is highly suspect IMO. The 2nd rebuilt motor failed with less than 1500 miles on it.

I swapped in an F22c (from Hardtop Guy) and it's run flawlessly for 15,000 miles.

Last Joe and I spoke (over a year ago) he agreed to compensate me $2k. Very reasonable compromise on my part considering. I've never received a penny nor the courtesy of a return email or phone call.

Buyer beware ...

I cannot believe that. I believe a mistake like that would come from a newbie trying to put together a motor

So if I heard correctly, the second motor failed and you still have not received a penny?

That's correct. I gave up trying to contact him about 6 months ago.

The attention to detail is just not there. I had another motor builder tear down the 2nd Alaniz motor failure to try to diagnose the cause and see if it was worth rebuilding. His assessment of the cause was that peripheral systems had likely not been cleared from the previous failure so bits of metal started flowing as soon as the car was started. There was no real failure to be seen, just a fair bit of metal and damage from the same to bearings, etc.
