Default Just switched my ap1 retainers to ap2

Just wanted to give an update on my experience with changing out my retainers. Since I was getting a valve adjustment, I decided to swap out my 00 ap1 retainers to ap2 retainers from what I have read before on s2ki. I have been turbocharged for about 10k miles and my car has 148k total miles. None of the retainers were cracked. So now at least I know I have the beefier ap2 retainers, but it wasn't needed.

Good to hear you changed them out.

It doeant ease any minds, the retainers are weak. At any mileage, the can go. Its caused from high rpm over revs. they can let go on the first over rev.

Iread a thread long ago that only the intakes need to be done. I think it was a hondaman bill guy in nyc who recommended that. When i did my retainers (intake only) i had no cracked ones. That was at 80k miles and 40k at least of being supercharged, not to mention i hit 9k EVERYTIME i drive the car.

Only time will tell now if my engine holds up with the original banjo bolts.

I had my ap1 retainers replaced too and not one was cracked. I had to have it for piece of mind. I also replaced that oil jet bolt like 2 weeks ago. Doing all the prep work before I put the turbo in.

I changed mine... they were pristine.

These things definitely get well overblown on the forums.
