Default Knock Detection

What are you using for knock / preignition detection? I have been looking at a few different devices but I would like to have an audio based unit similar to the Knock Box, but it would be nice to see what everyone else is using?

What do the plugs look like if it has been knocking?
they will usually be white due to heat. They will look like they have small salt speckles on them...thats pieces of your piston that have become molten and attached to the plug porcelain. Good burning plugs will look tan in color.

I have Knock and Ignition retard monitored on my AEM Serial gauge. If I think I hear knock I check the HI parameter on either. If I see 2v on the Knock or any retard I know I'm knocking.

Link ECU's in New Zealand have a few knock detection products. I use their simple one as a knock detector on the dyno. Works fine for what I want.

That only tell you if your are knocking and not at what RPM or Load

Here is but one version, I am interested in using it on cars that do not have a standalone or good data logging availibility.

True its not exact by any means, but it gives you an indication that you need to change something.

This seems like its good for the dyno but what's available as a detector on the fly?

Pull the plugs as soon as you feel you might be detonating. Waiting to long will also alter the color of the plugs and you wont get a 100% accurate reading, good luck man.
