My second time around. I just kept tightening it. Its on there damn tight now. I feel fairly confident it won't happen again. The adaptor bolt will bottom out then the block side will tighten further giving you a snug fit.

Shaving the Honda fitting would exacerbate the issue. If the Canton bolt is too long, it doesn't matter if you tighten it REALLY tight against the block, oil will still leak from the gasket like a sieve.

It will to a point. If the canton Bolt is too long (which many of them are by at least a few millimeters), you will bottom out. It would be REALLY tight on the engine block itself, but the adapter block will not be putting adequate pressure between the gasket/engine block.

That's what everyone wasn't sure of: if the Honda bolt was bottoming out inside the canton OR if the canton bolt was bottoming out.

Thank you for the info

You're welcome. For those who feel apprehensive about cutting the bolt, you could simply add a washer to create the necessary spacing. For example:

Canton bolt-->washer-->o-ring-->adapterBlock-->gasket-->engineBlock

(as opposed to the default configuration of Canton bolt-->o-ring-->adapterBlock-->gasket-->engineBlock)

Bain said he is going to cut the bolt down on a lathe in class tonight. Heat wrap was fubard so I told them to replace it. This should fix the problems.
