Well, I've been turbo'd for over a year and a half but only really fully tuned for a couple of weeks. In any case, I've been loving the new tune and get on the boost every chance I get.

Today, I was driving home and was planning on passing a vehicle when all of a sudden I get into boost and hear a "tink, tink," followed by a rattle and roll under the car. I'm thinkingt, or hoping that it was simply a rock that I ran over, but I've been in way too many turbo'd hondas and know better.

Immidiately after, I hear a very loud growl from under the hood and my car has no power whatsoever! Upon inspection at the next safe place to stop, low and behold, there I see my wastegate, resting peacefully on top of the manifold and the large gaping hole where it should have been! The bolts had been sheered right off!

In any case, I managed to drive it back to my tuner and he let me use his tools to reverse drill it out and then gave me some nice studs, lock washers and some nuts!
Revs like a champ now although I've noticed that my boost seems to climb a little bit more so I've turned down the boost controller a click.

So leson to the wise, make sure you get the high temp. heavy duty bolts or studs, especially for the wastegate! I totally overlooked that part of my budget builld!

Bolts shouldn't just shear off on their own. Is your wastegate recirculated into the exhaust? If so, is there a flex section on the exhaust?

Na mate, it was an open dump tube. I used just regular bolts from Home Depot. Tuner reckons that the heat got to them.

Yea, heat + vibration killed em.

I try to use stronger bolts where possible, 8+.

Good thing it wasn't something major, lol.

You need to brace it to the engine block, like the factory header and add a flex section.
