Why the FAWK would you want to keep everything right on top of the mani? So you can worry about lighting your whip on fire every time you drive?

Heat management. It'll help with preventing things around the exhaust housing from getting hot/melted. in theory, it'll also retain more heat inside the housing, helping spool up/response a little.
