The weather has a big effect on everything as well as cuts and bruises you get from working near the engine

What are all you guys doing for a transmission upgrade? I am making 707whp on Q16 and it has been going through transmissions.

PPG is the best way to go but the cheapest way is to take it easy on your tranny lol. Im doing option #2 for a while and hopefully it wont chew through too many trannys

My problem with the stock tranny is it was breaking when I wasn't even beating on it. Both of the stock trans I broke, happened on the street, just easing into boost from a roll in 2nd gear. It broke in the top of 2nd. They didn't break from shock, they just broke.

I hate to burst anyones bubble, but if 9's are your goal, the transmission is definitely something that'll need addressed.

I did have a PPG reduction gear which probably put a bit more load on the gear than stock, so you might be able to get away with a bit more power than low 600's but I'm not sure.

Under 600whp, no problem at all, above 600whp is where I started having issues.

I had the PPG dogbox setup w/ PPG drop gears. Which someone that has chimed into this thread already has purchased....

Get ahold of Tony, the same guy you bought your injectors off of. That's where I bought the gears from. He'll take care of you.

This is an email i received from Bullhead Gears, pretty frickin pricey

$10500 for dog and $$6900 for synchro. Probably looking at a 8-12 week wait time on these. I do have one 1:1 drop gear in stock though.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks

Erik

Jesus at that price they must not like you lol. I got quoted less on both styles, before I went the cheaper route of buying Mr Bales

I got quoted $5750 for the PPG synchro gearset with reduction gear and $7950 for the PPG dog box with reduction gear from Chris Madeo at Bullhead.

BTW, I am still on my original stock tranny and was putting down 581 whp and 440 tq with no breakage. That 440 tq is closer to what most that make near 700 whp put down and the tq is what will kill the gears. The only problems I have ever had was 5th and 6th gears getting locked out at times after a hard run but they would always come back after a few miles. I have since stopped boosting hard in 5th and 6th gears.
