Default New Vortech Supercharger Install!

Hey guys, so it's finally happening; I just sent my V2 SC Trim blower off to vortech to get rebuilt bearings and upgraded trim to the SI trim. My mechanic recommends I get rid of the aftercooler and get a front mount intercooler, so clearly I'm going to listen. Any recommendations as to what I should get? I'm going to be looking to push 450-475 whip if possible.

(not sure if this hot link will work)

Any advice as to which I should get is GREATLY appreciated!

Max Speed:
52000 RPM
Max Boost:
22 PSI
Max Flow:
1150 CFM
Max Power:
775 HP
Peak Efficiency:
78%

Unfortunately your tuner is giving you wrong advice on the fmic, IF you want to make max power that is. Too much boost loss to overcome the slightly lower AIT cooling. Your also going to lose throttle response with an fmic. The most efficient set up for a supercharged system is to stick with your aftercooler, but upgrade your heat exchanger size to like one SOS offers.

^ what he said. Additionally, make sure your water pump can push through your new heat exchanger.

yeah, I just went through this in another thread... the con side won! Boost loss, lack of throttle response...coming from guys who have gone that route. I am on the quest to get my iat's down .... going to pull the spearco front mount heat exchanger and install one from frozen boost dot com. They have one that is 3.5" !!

^Yeah I am going to switch to that one next. Get a Bosch water pump and iat's should be really low! I use mostly distilled water with a small amount of antifreeze and water wetter. Keeps the temps way down!

It is very possible this is what he said, our conversation was over the phone and I'm quite new to FI. Thanks for all of the options. It seems like buying a used would be an option as there doesn't appear to be much that can go wrong with them. Any reason I shouldn't buy used, or things I should look for on a used one?

Used kits are fine if you can gather the mileage on the blower, make sure its not weeping oil and bearings are in good shape, and make sure the kit is complete. Some things get lost along the way depending on the tuning stage the seller was at when being sold, just make sure you do plenty of research and ask a lot of questions as they come up and you can find some great deals out there, typical half the cost of new.

I'm only speaking of the heat exchanger, I already own the kit pictured of which the blower was trashed and is currently being rebuilt and upgraded to a newer trim by vortech.

Ahh yes indeed, well in this case you would probably be ok with one IF you could find one, that may be the issue. There are some SC guys that have sourced out some much less expensive alternatives to the SOS type, same holding capacity and function, and about $200 less expensive. maybe some of them will chime in and fill you in. Personally to date I have just chained two stock size heat exchanger together, works better then stock, but probably not quite as good as what it could be with the full size racing exchanger we are referring to.

There are a ton of options for the heat exchanger...SOS sells one (very good), many knock offs on Ebay, Frozenboost.com has a few different models as well. The big ass 3.5" is $179. You also want to go with the Bosch water pump...Ebay for that, just make sure you get the pigtail for wiring as well...otherwise you will have to buy and wait for shipping again. Also, I was told it is very important that you get the flow correct...pump to the aftercooler to the heat exchanger...make sure all the air is out and like Moddiction said...distilled water and water wetter (buy it at any parts place) and some anti freeze if you need it.
