Thumbs up new wastegate issues

My mechanic installed a new tial wastegate since my original broke. I was running around with a wastgate and a 4psi spring in it for the time being and the car didn't feel terribly quick.

We swapped for the 7psi wastgate today and I left the shop. It positively RIPPED and needless to say I was in love with it. But just a mile down the road it loses the boost it was holding and I hear plenty of rattling going on under the hood. I popped the hood and it was plain to see the wastegate was loose. I made a call and u-turned back to the shop. Upon further inspection, I had sheared off the head of a bolt holding the wastgate to the flange somehow. These were the bolts that came with the kit from Tial. We threw on some new bolts and I left. But now the car is back to it's ok fast self. It doesn't feel like it did before that original bolt let loose. I pulled over and looked for issues. No exhaust leaks that I could see.

When I got home I had my brother help me check to see if exhaust was coming out of the dump tube hoping to find out if the wastegate was stuck open. I put my hand under the car where the tube should extend to but couldn't feel anything. The car sounds like its letting out a little exhaust from the turbo/manifold area but I can't smell any. It definitely sounds different than it did when I had the bolt that came with the kit on it.

I am at a loss on this one. My car goes for clutch install in a couple days and I've told my mechanic to check it out then. No obvious signs though so I am stumped.

I've looked further and I think exhaust is coming from somewhere around the wastgate flange, possible leak but we'll find out I guess.

Could it be the wastegate bolts backing out? I had a problem with mine backing out till we used headstuds.

you win OG!!! I put my hand next to the wastgate after starting it up and sure enough I could feel exhaust puffing out of there.

What kind of head studs did you use?

check this out:

Matt, you are having the worst luck with that install. Hopefully they will get it fixed soon.
