why dont you diagnose it ...... check all fuses (everyone of them) check the coil grounds, for that matter check all grounds on the motor and trans while your at it, next if your not getting spark in all 4 coils, then see if you can try a set of good known coils, if that doesnt work, check for a volage drop from the terminals of the ecu to the coils connectors, (back probe connectors) if everything checks out okay within spec (no resistance in any wires, nothing out of spec and no voltage drops), ecu is at fault... PERIOD.

pretty simple actually.....

just find the specs in the service manual and follow a long .... start at the fuses move tot he coils and go back towards the ecu, like putting together ikea furniture haha

Can you hear the fuel pump prime when turning on the ignition? If the fuse for the fuel pump is blown the ecu will not get power.

I thought that was what I was doing.

Perhaps my lack of pace is confusing you. I do have a job.

And I'm also fairly disorganised so finding my USB-Serial adaptor took up a chunk of time.

Yeah, it's a Walbro 255LPH so pretty hard to miss. I had a problem previously where the fuel pump wasn't activated and that turned out to be the ECU.

I tuned a car a couple of weeks ago that literally had 3 bad coils lol. All but one coil would barely spark. I couldn't believe it.

Check the relays under hood. U eliminated the ecu as problem. I'd point towards sensor or relay bad.

Seems InductionPerformance wins the prize. Looks like it was coils after all.

I got the laptop connected and it was finding sync so that eliminates that possibility. I then swapped coil 1 for one of my spares and on turning over it coughed and spluttered a bit. So I replaced coils 2 to 4 with my old spares and it started reasonably well. Guess it was a bit flooded from all the false starts.

Anyway the coils I had lying around were from my old motor and were a bit fire damaged and messed up but at least they start the car. Might shop now for soem newbies.

Thanks for all your help guys.

No offence but coils would have been my first thing to try on day one.

6 days ago that advice would have been most helpful.
