^^^A bit over 11k miles (not a DD). Almost half of those miles are from mountain/canyon runs.

So the SL's are not recommended for high boost? And oil fed blowers take more abuse? That would make sense I guess considering how much more oil circulates to the blower when the engine oil is utilized, problem is that then the engine oil begins to suffer quicker. I guess there's always a compromise. I don't know how difficult it is to change the oil in the SL blower, but it would seem wise to change it much more frequent then the engine oil, since you cant be getting much more then a quart or two circulating the blower. Less oil contaminates and breaks down quicker. I don't imagine that there is a filter system in place on the blower either.

My vortech also needs a rebuild after 10k street miles and 10 track days.

This sunday I was at buttonwillow came in after first session and belt was off one tooth. Adjusted belt and had my friend watch blower for anything unusual as I revved engine and to my surprise you could watch the sc pulley walk as you rev it. Throughout the day the SC was puking oil all over the valve cover so its coming off this week getting rebuilt than its for sale lol back to NA its just more practical for the track.

The oil change interval for the blower is very close to the interval for your engine oil actually. They recommend changing the blower oil every 7500 miles. It is very simple to change for the SL blowers.

I am surprised that they say the non-SL blowers are more reliable though. I was under the impression that the SL option was an upgrade and that not having to share the heat load of the engine oil was a benefit. I'm pretty disappointed with this answer from Paxton. Also, why would vibration cause all these issues?

Interestingly, my S/C has decided to really quieten down in the last few days. I can't really explain that. I still think I'm probably in the same boat as some of the others in this thread and that mine likely needs a rebuild. I'll be pulling it and sending it to Paxton in a week or so and will update with results after that.

Being SC, my engine oil seems to break down about 3k miles with full syn, I’ve learned to not let it go any further then this. That’s with 6 quarts. My guess is that letting 1-2 quarts of oil go for 7500 miles in a pressure cooker that gets hotter I believe, is part of the problem no matter what there recommended change interval is. After going through this situation some of you guys are going through with the short life span, I’d be inclined to at least changing every 3k miles, especially if your racing. I bought my oil fed Novi 1000 used with 10k on it and put aprox 50k of my own, still going strong. These blowers build a tremendous amount of heat, oil is the only thing keeping them alive. Its too bad someone cant figure out a liquid cooled version of the Paxton.

The fluid change consists of 4 fluid oz (max level on dipstick on my blower). Once I get myblower back, I won't be following the recommended oil service interval.

That's no typo, 4oz is all. I just ordered 12 bottles of the special oil for 12 changes. Unless my blower takes a crap again, it should be good for 1 year of changes.

Anyone ever figure out what that magic oil really is? My gut tells me it isnt magic at all and is probably something pretty common.

Where di you order yours from btw?

Thanks,

I purchased the fluid from from Paxton (some $30 for a 3-pack). I asked the guy that I was speaking with at Paxton if it was transmission fluid. He mentioned it was similar (I was thinking okay buddy), but something that they bottle in-house. They also mentioned that Vortech and Paxton SL fluid is the same thing, just relabeled.
