novi2000
the main gear of the cam chain broke or bent and seized one of my cams, thus destroying my head. has anyone seen this happen before? the bolt for the pulley on the back of the blower was no longer in its place when this happened. we are not sure if this caused the problem with my cams or if it was just the pure size of the novi2000. im stock now trying to decide weather or not to go through with this project novi2000/s2000. please let me know what you think, do not hold back on any advice, ridicule, ect.

also, has anyone here done this before on f20c? if the blower is the cause of my problem, would treating my head help?

Chances are, the seizing happend 1st, then the bolts broke. Has the engine ever been apart before?
A missing pulley bolt isn't going to the failure you are describing. The pulley has to be removed to mount the SC on the brackets. The bolt may not have been properly tightened.

Superchargers are known to cause additional stress on the front crank bearing but that is all that I know of. It does not sound like your problems are related. Even without the bolt, the pulley was probably either held slighly siezed to the shaft, or it was floating on the shaft held on by the belt.
Usually what happened to you is caused by the cam locking up first and causing the other problems rather than the other way. Reasons I can think of is too much stress on the bearings (chain too tight or loose), dirt or too much wear in the bearings, too high of rpms, or oil starvation. Take pictures and post.

Honestly, after spending numerous hours on the phone with Comptech & Paxton - I personally decided not to go the NOVI 2000 route myself.
Fully built LS1's and Vipers use NOVI 2000's - these are motors that are much much larger than the S2000 2.0/2.2L. As well, from what I've been told most domestics who use the NOVI 2000 have an insanely high idle due to amount of air that the engine must injest from the blower at lower idles.
Personally, I would say step back and look into something different. Being the first to try something is never a bad thing - especially if you can get it to work. Sometimes though you need to stand back and see the bigger picture, maybe there is a reason why no one else has bit the bullet & tried it.
I hope this helps bud. Does stink though, I would have loved to see the NOVI 2000 work.
Also, regarding cryotreating - I used www.percryo.com. Lyle is the guy incharge over there, does excellent work and awesome customer service!

It would have only been another $250 for me to 'upgrade' to the Novi 2000 when I sent my old blower to Paxton. I really looked into it carefully but instead I got a brand new 1000.
Paxton advised against me making major changes other than adding a smaller diameter pulley.
The major issue here is that you are going to deal with custom turbo woes for SCer performance. IMO, the whole idea of a SC is something reliable and relatively low maintenance. If you want to go radical with one off fabrication turbo makes the most sense. Especially since in NY you have no CARB to worry about.
Another alternative from Paxton, if they are willing to work with you, would be a trade in for a Novi 1200. But once again, you are defeating the no-brainer +100HP performance gain from the basic SCer kit either Comptech or Vortech.

The Paxton NOVI 1200 and 1500 will not bolt up with the Comptech unit. The mounting bracket has a different pattern. Trust me, I asked the associate at Paxton about this as well - being that a Novi 1200 pumps 1000cfm (same as Vortech S-Trim) while the Novi 1500 pumps 1200 cfm - considerably higher.
They commenting saying it bolts up differently, so you will have to have a custom bracket made.

The bracket can be machined to make it fit with new holes. Not an easy task, but doable. Not recommending it by means, but he needs to get a SCer he can use or eBay the Novi2000 and go turbo.
