S2000 Forced Induction S2000 Turbocharging and S2000 supercharging, for that extra kick.

coil difficulty level 1. Allen wrench and a 10mm are all you need. they are under the spark plug/coil cover.

I've done 2 boost builds my first S2000 made 499whp and my current one is making 591whp and I have had a few coils go bad on me in each build but it seemed to be more related to the mileage than anything else. Ive used ap1 coils and the first gen ap2 coils and they both seemed to work the same for me. I keep 2 to 3 extra coils just in case.
Thanks. My 01 only had 68K miles on it....and they just replaced with another used on....
You replacing with used or new coils ?
I've never changed a coil => difficulty scale from 1-10 (for non-mechanic) ? Any special tools required ?
Thanks !
I have replaced with new and used coils. The coils that I replaced with brand new and low mileage ones were fine but once I replaced coil with another high mileage one because that was all that I could get that day nd it blew out after about a week. But by that time my other coils had arrived and I haven't had any problems since. Once I get my bigger turbo and head toward 900whp we'll see how my coils do lol.

Thanks for the interesting info. May I assume there is some correlation between HP and coils (higher = bad for coils) ? I'm obviously running much lower at 500 vs your 591 and 900(!) but it would be interesting to know if others >450HP have same issues with them.
* BTW - is the coil replacement a 10/30/60 minute job ?
* How can you be 150% sure it's the coil that needs replaced and which one that needs to be replaced ?

Thanks!

you can replace all of the coils in 10 mins. Like someone said earlier you just take off the spark plug cover with an allen, then use a 10mm socket for the bolt holding each coil in then unplug them and pull them out. When some of my coils went bad my car sounded kinda like a wrx and to check which one it is you can just unplug the coils one at a time until it idles normal again then replace the bad one. The ones that would idle and drive normal but would only have a blowout under boost are a little bit harder to find. Since I lived about 5 minutes away from my tuning shop I would just take it there and normally they would connect to my aem ecu and put it on the dyno to find the bad coil.

There are always coil packs. Won't have any issues with those.
