stubborn. i don't understand why you would do that? it's not like you already had the pan done. you came on here and asked for input, the majority of the people said don't tap the pan, and you went and tapped the pan. ohh well. i never like to see anyone have unnecessary problems with their cars, that's why i said in the first reply tap the girdle.

Allow me to venture why he might be tapping the pan.

Tapping the girdle is easy of the engine is out. If it's in the car then can you even get a drill and tap in there? To tap the pan just remove it. Simple as.

This, and the fact that no one here (myself included) has had problems with a tapped pan might be the reason.

It's also important to consider the turbo location, if you can't get a good downward slope by tapping the girdle but you can by tapping the pan that's a trade off worth taking. That said I have no clue where the OP's turbo is.

tapping the girdle with the engine in the car is not a problem at all.. plenty of room with right-angle drill..

i still think the oil pan is not a good location for the oil drain to go..

You can also cut the bit down and use a T handle and drill it by hand if you wanted to. Heck, you could even wrap the drill bit with a good shop rag and drill it by hand. LOL The aluminum is failry soft and easy to drill.

okay no one that replied to this thread has had a problem. you guys are the lucky ones. turbos blow seals all the time because of insufficient drain setups.

I'm going to start putting the tools together and tap my girdle instead. It looks easy enough I guess lol. There is a tap kit out right now for about $80 I found through google that insures a perfect tap so it should make my life just a bit easier for when I do it. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

inline pro has been tapping the driver side front of the oil pan for years with no issues, that is where i plan on tapping the pan and it should work fine, nice long drain line -10 an, should be much more than sufficient for draining purposes.

Actually haven't tapped anything yet. Was still waiting on oil pan baffle. Also the reason I was leaning towards having the pan tapped over the girdle was that it appeared to be much easier to get to and accomplish as AusS2000 said. Now after seeing some of the pics of where people are tapping I am not quite sure which way I will go. I'll post pics of what I decide once I do it though.

Also turbo will be located in the same general area as the Greddy kit or Godspeed kit.
