Default Oil filter backed out...

Long story short, I was driving the car this weekend; everything was great. Parked it for about 30-45 mins and then turned it on to leave and noticed the oil pressure light came on as I began to back out. I turned it off instantly. Got out and walked to the front of the car and saw a puddle of oil and then a little stream of oil coming from under the car. I thought it was my turbo drain was loose.

Towed the car home and lifted it up and started tearing it down. I drained the rest of the oil and took off a few things here and there. Took off my intake tube and then reached up to take off the oil filter... Well, it was already off by one or two turns.

Because of the turbo kit, I have the OEM oil cooler that uses the coolant off. I use the threaded adapter that allows you to put the oil filter directly to the block. My first oil change I noticed the oil filter rubber gasket had a cut in it from the mating surface of the block. Basically the gasket of the oil filter is half on and half off the blocks mating surface. I didn't think too much of it because I'm not the first to run this set up and thought it may just be "one of those things."

I'm using the OEM s2000 specific filters.

Are you guys using something else? (Those who run the adaptor.)

I'm going to try to fab up a stopper of some sort for the filter. Hopefully this doesn't happen again to me, or ever to any of you guys. I have a ton of oil to clean up from under my hood.

Did you happen to use an oil filter wrench or adapter to tighten? On my old integra, the same thing happend to me because I probably overtightened it. The gasket was ruined and oil leaked profusely. I've been hand tightening ever since.

I had the same thing happen to my P-Tuning kit. I keep getting an oil leak. I would check the oil filter and it would be hand tight. After this happened a third time, I removed the filter and the adapter was loose. I bought a rubber pipe band wrench to tighten it.

There is a company named BOSS or BAWS that sells a locking clamp for the oil filter. I think it attaches to a few of the timing chain cover bolts.

I have a remote mount oil filter. Any ideas to make sure it stays in place?

You'd have to have some pretty grippy hands to get enough torque on the oil filter to safely hand tighten it

Also, Honda sells an oil filter wrench specifically used for the larger S2000 oil filter. I recommend using it and torquing the filter to spec!

I have it, and I run an S2000 filter on all 3 of my cars. 1 filter, 1 wrench, zero problems.

Part number (Id double check this): 15400-PCX-305

I had a similar issue happen on my P-Tuning kit. I was cruising around one afternoon, maybe a week after I did an oil change, when I then noticed my oil light come on and smoke starting to come out of the hood. I immediately shut off the car and coasted into the first gas station I saw which was luckily 1/8th of a mile up. When I pop the hood oil was EVERYWHERE. I actually thought that it was my turbo feed since it had a small frey in it so I didn't look much further, a few hours later my buddy pointed out that my oil filter had a gap between the seal and block. It literally backed itself off 3-4 turns. To this day I never had another issue but I always know I tighten the filters very snug so idk what happened that time. Is there any kind of locking systems out there to keep the filter from spinning? I believe I saw J`s Racing had one but are there any affordable options lol

On my kit the filter was loose but so was the threaded fitting that threads into the block. Since tightening that, I haven't had another leak.
