Default Paxton Novi SL reliability

I'm just getting into superchargers since I'm looking at putting one on this winter, and I'll be buying a used kit so I can't completely pick and choose what I want.
I've been reading about the Novi self lubricated blowers eating themselves, sometimes after only a few months. All the threads I've seen are more from when they came out, 2009-2011. I haven't seen many current threads about them and I am wondering if they have gotten better or if they are still prone to failure?

Decided to stay away from the SL blowers, just don't want to risk it, went with a vortech kit with a v2 blower

I, personally, am not a fan of the SL series... I have heard more horror stories than id like to.

Forget the sl blowers. Tried and true oil fed ftw.

Id stay away from the SL series. I believe people just stopped purchasing them due to reliability issues. Not worth carrying that risk.

any idea what the trade in price would be, to go from a SL to a oil fed?

I have a SL 1220 making 360whp and still running strong.... no problems but i wonder how much it would be to trade for a 1200 non sl? Anybody know?

I would give Paxton a call directly and see if they can work anything out with you. A friend of mine did the same looking to trade his 1220 (engine oil fed) for the 1200. I can't remember the price they quoted him, but they did quote him a price for trade-in.

FYI - SOS will sell you the 1200 for $1,695.50 on their website.

thanks... i remember when i bought the car i looked into it and they wanted about $1600, PLUS my 1220 oil fed as a trade in..... I was like WTF. I feel like Paxton isnt always looking to help you out more then get you off their back. Maybe it was just who i talked to... ill try again after i pay for my new top end and head gasket

edit: Mine is a polished unit as well, not sure how much extra that costs.
